Thought I had to post this up. I love a lot of random stuff, from classics to RatRods A mate in South Africa posted this in my trucks build thread and I loved what I saw. In the style it is built, the builder IMHO has struck the balance just right. Why go Willys when you can go Land Cruiser? We know how badly they rust away. Anyway........ ![](http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm90/niknakpix/2015%20Continues/image.jpg2_zpske3fpefe.jpg) ![](http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm90/niknakpix/2015%20Continues/image.jpg4_zpsyrnaasod.jpg) ![](http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm90/niknakpix/2015%20Continues/image.jpg3_zpsthp3ut4b.jpg) And on the road....... ![](http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm90/niknakpix/2015%20Continues/image.jpg1_zpsaqm7mjjo.jpg) He also builds Teardrop trailers. Here is his Facebook link: www.facebook.com/AllersRodsAndCustomsMore of what comes out of his creative pen. ![](http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm90/niknakpix/2015%20Continues/image.jpg1_zps0ctkcyma.jpg) These may not be to everyone's taste, but it is great to see some good solid creativity come from South African builders. The Internet has again won't my education.

Hi the land cruiser looks cool but not to sure about the bug.as I'm well into my vows it would look a lot better if it did not have that big engine in the front.but hats off to the amount of work that has gone into them.

Do RatRods ever get finished? Nope, because they are RatRods. Simples ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)

I wouldn't call the Land Cruiser a rat rod, it's far to well finished. Looks better without the roof and doors too (IMHO).

Neither of those are ratrods though. They are just rods.
By definition rat rods look unfinished, rusty and thrown together. That's the whole point, and they are finished but never look it - again the point.

The term rat rod seems to be starting to evolve in the states though. It's not only used to refer to poorly finished stuff, but also to stuff that doesn't fit into the niche of a traditional hot rod or street rod, usually due to being alternatively bodied, or weirdly proportioned, even if it has a respectable level of finish.

In my opinion no car is ever truly finished as they constantly evolve

I was under the impression that the Ratrod concept is mostly a way to allow one's imagination free rein without having to conform to the legal restraints of building a road legal car. The ones I have seen here in NZ would seem to fit that definition.

The hot rod bug is awesome! The cruiser is not to my taste, but looks well built and a lot of effort..
I hate the term rat rod. Especially when it's used to describe anything well built and good looking. In my head rat rods are lazy half-assed builds made for shock value. I won't post pictures as this isn't barryboys, but you know the kind.

I'd say the opposite as the proper steel rods don't hide anything under filler and paint so the engineering is usually very tidy if perhaps a bit outdated

I've never really liked the term rat rod. Proper hot rods built by proper men in their driveway were often unfinished looking as they spent all their spare time and money going as fast as possible

Not sure either of them do much for me tbh.
Both look like they're an 'put on whatever body style you fancy today' on a knocked up chassis? I prefer the standard chassis' stretched look.
