I came across an MG Midget a couple of months back. it's now sat in my garage and I've realised it has been fitted with not just a fibreglass front but also a fibreglass rear end. As the car will never be a show car I'm intending on not even repainting it but leaving it in the scratched crazed state. I want to lower the car a bit and as it's currently British Racing Green I'm planning on just painting the wheels black and leaving it at that. Does anyone have any other ideas for Midgets?

Any pics? Some of the fibreglass bodied cars are very valuable....

I've had a couple of Spridgets and nice cars - even if a little small for me. Lowering is easy. Longer U bolts and blocks on rear. Front you use longer bolts for the lower spring pan to the wishbone and spacers to lower the pan. People sometimes simply use a pile of penny washers but most MG specialists have the kits with spacers. Is it a 1275 or a 1500 ?

I will try upload some pics, it's just a standard looking Midget the plastic body is a copy of the original so not a rare lenham or such. It's also A series powered which I prefer.

Loads of potential with this, already looks good. Have you tried doing a Google search for 'modified MG Midget or Austin Healey Sprite'? There are just a few matches on there......

I'm not that well up on MG's so thanks for the info. sounds fairly easy at the back, I will have to investigate the front to see how it's done.

With ro-styles I hope you are thinking of giving them a two-tone (or even three)& not all black... that would be pretty boring. Grille NEEDS recessing?

I'm thinking along the lines of the blue one above. Yeah the grill has been removed as it looked like it was thrown on from a distance.

I have been offered a wire wheel set including axle but it's right down on the south coast. I like the idea of coloured wire wheels, say red or black unsure about the Rostyle wheels but may look for the earlier version of the Rostyle.

I saw the pictures of this midget floating about the web a few weeks back, I thought it looked great. I really like how the black wires work and the sortta stripped back minimal approach to the rest of the car. Less is definitely more!

Had a couple of midgets myself but didn't get much further with visuals than a predictable set of minilites. Personally I haven't seen many heavily modded ones that don't look a bit naff. I like their classic looks anyway. I focussed on engine mods and tuned up the 1275 engine, great fun to drive with a little bit more poke.
I ditched the baby twin sus in favour of a single 1 3/4 SU which made a big difference and was easier to set up, plus lightened internals, uprated cam etc, usual A-series stuff. I think a sorted midget is the most driving fun you can have below the speed limit!

I think a sorted midget is the most driving fun you can have below the speed limit! I removed the engine & box from my Austin Sprite (post Healey agreement version) before selling as new owner just wanted a rolling shell to upgrade. Got more for the rolling shell than I previously wanted for the whole car ! The 1275 & box is now in my Marlin along with a Mini LCB (it has a side exit exhaust like a Caterham, Westfield, etc) and single 44HIF MG Metro carb on water heated manifold. www.bcmgoc.co.uk/A%20simple%20carburettor%20conversion%20for%20a%201275%20Midget%20New.pdf

Its currently sporting a single SU on a nice manifold, LCB big bore exhaust etc etc

RWA! Much as i like the blue one, that's money. Wires would be chrome for me, but you know, it's not my car.. The Rostyles do look great in either all-silver or their original silver/black two-tone job. Here's black.. But you'll be surprised what a general tidy-up will do with what you have.. And a few styles i like..

My suggestion: Paint the wheels yellow Put in red seats and steering wheel Do a black mesh grille with a lipstick red grill surround
