Looking good!
Interesting about the balance point for the engine and gearbox. Way more central than I was expecting. I suppose the box of cogs hanging off the end is quite dense, whereas the block has a pretty big void in the crankcase. Wonder how that changes when it's full of coolant/oil though...

That is full of oil ! - Engine and gearbox - compared to the overall mass a few KG of water would not significantly change the CoG - There are a few parts missing - alternator off one end - water manifold and dizzy and starter motor off the other. Intake not on but I think overall it would not move the CoG any significant amount. That point is also pretty much on the CL of the vehicle.

Cheers sean999r - I hope to keep the momentum going and with you back in the dark and damp hopefully I will get the chance read up on your progress. On other matters - the Litton that was local to me has moved on to a new owner - A deal was discussed that was enough to make up the sellers mind to let it go. Word is that the new owner is just a county to the east of me and who knows, perhaps he will find this thread in the future has a read and introduce himself. The forecast is telling me I may well get some work done on the car over the weekend regarding the welding I want to finish so fingers crossed.

Trying to keep the momentum going so yesterday I built up the N/S drive shaft - cleaned the surface rust off the steering shaft and the alternator mount and then stripped and cleaned the O/S driveshaft. Some more painting to do.

As you know Pete on the corner is your man for butchery - And now you know where to come for advice on tuning a WMD - Although please don't - LOL I do occasionally wonder what cars MI5 are using these days for surveillance purposes - back in my day it was Mid Blue Sierra's following me around when it came around to vetting time. I am happy to say that new role is in renewables and carbon reduction technologies - So not a return to civilisation ending counter measures. Changing the subject completely - the Radiator turned up today

new role is in renewables and carbon reduction technologies How do you reconcile that, vis-a-vis triple Webbers?

At this time I have a clear conscience even without the new job - I think my Apple tree's have the 7 litres of fuel the Stratos has used since 1997 covered with plenty of credit. I also planted a Rowan as part of queensgreencanopy.org/ and although a twig at this stage, it will be playing its part. I'm good with my carbon offsetting - Unfortunately anything good that I manage to do is undone in spades by the household generation Y's and their mates with 500BHP BMW's !

Having decided that persevering with the old rad would probably end up being a pretty fruitless task I bought a new one. It is much lighter and far less corroded which I personally see as quite a good thing on both fronts. I will need machine up and weld in a bung for a rad switch in one of the pipes to the rad depending on what temperature range I can find, or a pocket for a sensor for one of the many adjustable controllers that are available for a few pounds these days. New mounts will be required as well as a structure for mounting the fans to it. the other job done was stripping the suspension parts down ready for blasting. Just need to press the bushes out of a couple of them. Time has not been kind to the rubbers on a couple of the ball joints so I will get a full set of replacements on order.

I’m sure it’s been mentioned already but please remind me from whence those lovely uprights came? They look like they belong on a Lola or something like that.
Cheers, John

I was just thinking 'man those are natty little uprights'. Not sure why they're such a pleasing piece of engineering, but they are

Please remind us where those rear uprights came from? They look very racecar-esque. Cheers, John A few high end specialist manufacturers got together and had designs done all very similar - Ultima, Gardner Douglas and Litton - Same with the steering racks that are also motorsport derived. Litton also had full alloy bell style AP racing brake set ups as well. A couple of pages back there is 308 engined Litton Corse i with the AP package on it. Manchester university had something to do with it. ETA Just noticed that the Ultima at the top is a different type
