Right, I found a braker on eBay with a 205 in my colour and some wings in VGC so I contacted him via ebay and subsequently through email he said he had a silver 205.
I asked about the condition of the headlamps and wings etc this was my reply.
'hi the headlights are in good condition wings have rust bubbles were they join bumper'
I figured fine ok, I will have to prep and paint them anyhoo. A price was agreed and delivery arranged. I paid by paypal to afford me some protection.
PLEASE NOTE: I realize now 2nd hand 205 wings are a stoopid idea cos of the sealent gluing them on and have since purchased new ones.
Well the parcel arrived and there is an indicator missing for starters, and the wings I would say far from some rust bubbles would at best be described as 'barely usable'
I will upload some pics,
So what are my rights? I was originally gonna keep these wings as spares and try an experimental arch extension program with them but these are garbage.

I would say next time make sure you inspect and buy in person, cash in hand! With used body panels that is really the only way. It's not an eBay sale, so you won't have any protection from eBay. PayPal is only protection from having your credit card details stolen, not from buying a bad item. Did you even ask for photos? If he told you that there was rust and you didn't get photos, I would say the item is exactly as described.

I paid a good price for them, these weren't cheap bits. Not a rip off but not dirt cheap.
Am I the fool for getting 2nd hand bits?
If I had been selling them I would have pointed out the were probably unusable.
Do you reckon paypal can help? I don't want a full refund but a show of good will would be nice. Also my indicator agreed in the price.
I expected some work but these are wibblepoo.

Hi, I think you should take it as a learning curve. The issue of condition is subjective, one mans good condition is anothers OK. The problem with rust bubbles is it's alright fixed in position on the car but once it's been bumped around in transit it can soon become a hole. Things where condition is important to you need to be viewed in person before payment. Was the missing indicator specifically mentioned as being supplied? Because if not that could be a few more quid to him from elsewhere.

I paid, 100 for the bolt on slam panel, 2 headlamps, 2 front indicators and 2 front wings.
TBH the headlamps (and the 1 indicator I have) are peachy.

if he is a commercial business selling second hand parts, then normal statutory rights apply. i.e have to be as advertised and fit for purpose, otherwise refund or exchange.
if its a private seller, you have no rights

It is perfectly possible to remove OE 205 wings without damaging them, but it takes time and patience to do so without causing damage and unfortunately an average breaker possesses neither.
Indeed, wherever possible I'd try and use an original wing as many of the pattern ones on the market give a very poor fit and are notorious for rusting out within a short period (although I suspect a lot of that is due to prep)
The seller did mention the rust around the bumper so you'll be hard pressed to complain about that, but that the wing looks to have been mauled removing it and as such it's now completely bent out of shape would probably be sufficient for eBay to side with you if you open a case.
With anything like this though, as has been said one persons "good" is another's "scrap" and pictures paint a thousand words.

Commercial business. So I go in and politely ask for my indicator and explain that the wings are in a very poor condition (even with age and price allowing) and suggest a goodwill refund of say £30.00. And see where that gets me.
EDIT: this isn't an eBay sale however it is a proper business and a proper business paypal payment.

Incorrect, you can open a Paypal dispute and you are covered for items not being as described, missing items, damaged goods etc etc etc. You have 45 days from the payment date to open a dispute. I would definitely open a dispute, they are destroyed from removal tactics and not as described. You have proof that he's said they are fine bar a few bubbles. Hopefully that proof is outside of eBay as they may drop the claim if you have found him on eBay and dealt outside of it.

This is why I worry so much when I sell 2nd hand parts, what someone thinks is good, or useable, might be unreasonable to others. (I'm not assuming what skills you have btw!)

So you paid £100 for a half decent slam panel, two peachy headlights, a peachy indicator and two dodgy wings? I'd say that's not awful really. This stuff is getting hard to find. Chalk it down to experience and move on with more important things. People are always banging on about their rights these days and what they're "entitled" to. I find it displeasing.

EmDee I am always careful to explain in full the condition of items and price them accordingly when I sell them. And have never had any complaints. If I can do it so could he. But no he took my money and took very little care removing them, didn't think to maybe inform me that they were worse than previously described/ Consumer rights is a good thing, I sell car parts (mostly new) for a living and have never fallen foul of consumer rights. I wouldn't dream of trying to sell curse word/poor products. Shame many people do.

I think you get a full 180 days now to claim "not as described" through paypal direct. That change was part of the reason i stopped selling old mechanical stuff online,6 month money back guarantee on secondhand items is a bit heavily weighted in favour of the buyer. To be honest i wouldn't start a claim as what you got for the money doean't seem too bad overall.
I'd be inclined to drop a friendly mail to the seller and say the wings are not what you expected, see if you can negotiate a partial refund.
