Thanks for the comments. The voltmeter came direct from China via eBay and was only about £10-12 inc delivery. Works well enough for what I need and doesn't even look that bad in the car.
I think the rear lights look better in real life that the pictures. Maybe get some pictures next week of the front lights mocked up!

Have plans for power but it'll probably be more controversial than the lights. Still have a couple of things to work out first though.

Love it, I've always liked Lada's (I guess I like most eastern block vehicles) and in my opinion the Riva has a nicer shape than the Niva, it's great to see you taking the time to save a car like this to most people it would be just a car for the scrap - I guess that's the retro rides ethos, saving the cars that aren't worth saving! (And I mean that in regards to money). You've got great metal working skills and your certainly braver than I'am taking on a project like this, did you realise all the work you would have to do when you got it? Keep up the good work and keep the updates coming,

That's what I think. The lights look a bit "lost" on that surface. Some sort of surrounding will do the trick.

Blimey, I didn't expect a resto of this quality when I started reading the thread. Are you a welder/fabricator? Fantastic work regardless, and great to see such attention to detail with the repairs and rustproofing, which is so often minimalist after epic weldathons. . This,.. what a mighty impressive thread,..

I had no idea how much work was involved at the start. The car was sold on the description that it would take an amateur mechanic no longer than a week to get it back on the road. Basically just needed a good service and check over and a couple of bits of minor welding on the floor. Got to love eBay! So much hate for the rear lights. Have to admit I'm really surprised given what Lada put on the car. :-) Here's a preview of the front ones to take the pressure of the rears. Just a rough mock up but I'm happy enough that it'll work. Turns out a Lada Riva is a good bit wider than a mk2 Golf! Need to order another grill as it'll be much neater and stronger to have a single join rather than try and piece in the missing gap.

It varies, I bought a whole load of offcuts on eBay and had a set of outer skin sills that I ended up using for some of the repair sections. The stuff for the chassis leg repairs and rear lights looks to be 2mm thick and the thinner stuff I've used looks to be 1.2mm if that helps? Some of the floor section, jacking points and A pillar repairs were somewhere inbetween.

Without question my favourite build on here for quite a while: a real world car with individual touches, beautifully executed.

I couldn't remember where I'd got to in this thread, so I read it again to find out. It's just as good the second time round! Thumbs up from me for the back lights, I hope the fronts work just as well.
