Barge hunting! Thinking something German as @mercdan68 V8 Jaaaag experience has frightened me off them forever Been checking out CLK's, W210's, W124's and even a few E38's. I was tempted to buy that LS400 on Ebay at the minute with the 18" Team Dynamic alloys on (The gold one) but the seller won't respond to my Email asking if the 2x cambelt changes have been done so I'll leave it. Onwards I go in search. Get a Straight 6 Jag (XJ40 or X300) or a late X308 V8 and you'll be reet Or an E38 is fun too, not quite as good for hustling down a back road as my Jag was mind

Hinckley Classic Car Show was on today, it's a cracking day and the show takes over the entire town centre closing the roads off and only allowing classic cars and bikes in. Oh and this was there. No sign of MrSpeedy Though.

retrolegends That's the first time I've managed to get to this event in Hinckley I was amazed at just how popular it was! I was definitely there, somewhere lol *edit* The penny has just dropped on that Hillman minx now. I knew it was one of 'our lot' but couldn't think who! *edit*

Monday morning here in New Zealand now. Didn't kill pigs on Saturday cos the weather was unsuitable. Sunday road trip went very well. No trouble at all from 25 year old car towing big double horse float. Picture still on camera. Haven't done fuel consumption figures yet but will be interesting. Used near enough to a whole tank to go around 400kms so rough guess around 15 mpg. Saw a lot of interesting old cars out cruising in the beautiful sunny spring weather. Late '30s to early '50s American Ford V8s, a very tidy PB Vauxhall, and a few other cool things. No pictures though cos I was driving. Like that Superminx RL. Takes me back to the '80s when there were still plenty of good ones around.

Been out in the woods trying to loose our pair of monkeys... unsuccessfully. They could teach Bear bloody Grylls a thing or two about finding your way home Also been trying to come up with a combination of fan thermoswitch that a) fits; b) actually has a high enough operating range it actually turns the fan off again rather than letting it run for ever; and c) actually has a low enough operating range to turn the fan on before the engine detonates and I end up wearing the front housing as a hat

Utterly failed to finished debumpering the front of the Princess on account of suddenly running out of welding gas just as I tacked the first blanking plate in. Didn't even manage to complete the grille modification because the Dremel was playing up and the big flat hand file had gone missing. Oh well, at least the Rover was happy enough to get me to the beach and back with the dog.
Wasn't a total loss though, saw some 30+ year old trucks on my way back from the beach and one had a very clean series 3 Maxi on it's low-loader trailer. No picture because I was driving.

The X308 looks pretty much identical on the outside to the X300 but has V8 engines rather than the older Straight 6's, theres probably quite a few subtle changes and the interior is quite a bit different as the X300 interior is similar to the older XJ40 ermm, I can't remember exactly but there was a point where the X308 got metal timing chain tensioners which were much better than the older plastic ones. I think around 2001 off the top of my head? Also earlier cars had Nikasil cylinder linings but thats not really an issue these days as they would have failed already by now

Going to a classic car show on saturday organised by the herald in Alton Hampshire. Its a charity type of event in the centre of Alton, they close the high street off and we park along there. Its a really great day, plus its free to enter and walk around looking at the eclectic collection of classics, vintage and some even older motors (is heritage the word I want???) So if you got no plans and your local, brig yourself along
