I was linked to this earlier : imgur.com/a/5JDTaInteresting stuff. Build on top of an actual Ferrari 512S CanAm chassis by Pininfarina, I should imagine in shifts pretty well too! What caught my eye though was the interior shot: It is right hand drive... Checking out the pictures of the race cars, they mainly appear to be left hand drive, which is strange. Then the gear shift is to the right of the driver (rather than the left as you'd expect in the RHD car. Are there any other cars with this odd configuration?? I'll not get into the yard or so you need to traverse before you can get in the drivers seat! Ferrari sold the car to James Glickenhaus ( p45c.com ) and he is getting it all running again, so expect to see it out and about at some high end event somewhere soon(ish) (I'm guessing Pebble Beach)

Closest I've got to the Modulo is probably this model in the car musem in Reims. GT40... I might be wrong but perhaps it is easier to get the linkage back to the gearbox in a mid engine car with the lever on the outside.

Quite a few race cars, or race car inspired builds have right hand shift, one that comes straight to mind are ultima's. I guess the thought is it's easier for the driver to swap from to the other the gear stick is in the same hand.

I've heard that some race cars are/were RHD or LHD depending on which way round the circuit you go, the driver being ideally on the side of the car that sees the most apex-es.
I assumed the Modulo was based on a 512BB, but on a race car chassis it's that much better!

Le Man's pits are on the right ergo the driver is on the same side so they don't jump out the car into traffic.

If you're of a certain age, *cough* everyone who was anyone had a Corgi Modulo to boast about in the school playground circa mid-1970s. I had a yellow one like this It was essential to have one to complement your Monterverdi Hai... A similar concept to the Modulo (in terms of bonkers opening canopy anyway) but from the other side of the world was the excellent and recently restored Holden Hurricane as photographed here by my mate Tony before handily repatriating from Australia I did do a thread from the MotoClassica once but it sank without trace

I allways thought they did that in two seater racers to keep the weight more centralised.

I think it goes back to the single seater days when single seaters had a manual box with the change on the right, Formula Junior and Formula Ford, which was the main feeder formulas for most sorts of racing, they used Hewland gearboxes, which were inverted VW gearboxes initially, and always had the lever on the right, If I remember correctly all Hewland Manual boxes had the shift on the right, and why would you make a car harder for a racing driver with lots to concentrate look for a gear lever when they have grown up and raced with a lever in that position.....
