2nd to last is my fave out of those ones. I've always liked the engine note as they drive past at 30 just with standard equipment. Such a nice burble.

Owned non turbo Impreza wagon and now a 2000 Forester S Turbo as near an Impreza you can get with more carrying capacity. Love Scoobies. Just getting my head round SSM software / diagnostics but being old timer taking longer to sink in. Old timer or not i got stainless 4 inch back box and induction kit fitted with other mods considered. Growing old discrace fully ............Mad As A Box Of Frogs mentality ............................

I bought an impreza in 2012 and drove it out to the ring and Cologne, loved it and would love another.

I just bought a w plate sport with a closed deck block and 17" sti wheels, it was a £500 facebook stab in the dark, unfortunately looks like it is too far gone - windscreen cracked, evidence of minor crash damage, broken drivers seat, rust starting, and a dashboard half removed and a dogs dinner of wiring flopping around. Brilliant cars though, i let my classic one go just this week - i'd owned it for years, pic below - purely sold it because they are commanding such good money at the moment, hope i don't live to regret that decision. ironically, i advertised it on here a while ago for a lot less than i got for it! A really nice young lad out of the armed forces came and bought it, hes taking it to cyprus, not sure i will see it again then...

They can be practical, as well as fun too. This is my '97 Turbo 2000 Wagon, when we took it on holiday with some friends last year to North Wales. Fully loaded with 4 adults, a boot FULL of stuff and 2 bikes on the roof (you can see how low the suspension is sitting at the back, and that's without anyone in it!). She didn't miss a beat and we had great fun on some of the twisty Welsh roads too.

I've had 2
They don't handle well as standard. At all.
I have nothing more to add...

I've had 2 They don't handle well as standard. At all. I have nothing more to add... I have had three and think they have excellent standard handling. Certainly its more than adequate for the standard performance, and much better than most of its contemporaries.

They push in the corners as standard, very under steery (I'm having that as a term!)
I have been in one properly setup with proper suspension and it held like nothing I've been in.
I think because of the pedigree and awd people 'believe' they handle awesome

They certainly handle better than the 1986 Audi Coupe Quattro i had

Low Standards is correct. As standard they have lots of grip but poor, understeer biased, handling.
It can be fixed but not cheaply.
The best inexpensive mod is to get the steering rack shimmed to remove the bumpsteer, as pioneered by Powerstation in Tewkesbury.
Ultimately though you are always fighting against the weight and high COG of the car.

Whats the real-world running costs like? I've heard they aren't great on fuel and parts are costly. I'd love to know from people running one as a daily.
