Last year I bought a M reg Fiat Punto, nothing unusual about a Punto you might ask but when have you ever seen a 6 - speed version?
Either I bought it or it went to the big Fiat dealership in the sky couldn't let that happen so for £150 it was delivered to my work with near enough a full MOT no less!!
Anyway in the cold light of day it was clear, the poor Punto was in need of some love. Paintwork, what paint work? the roof had been poorly rattle canned and the lacquer on the tops of the doors were peeling badly. Plus the bonnet and in other places the paintwork was going the same way!! the passenger wing had a nice dent near the front indicator. Which had been replaced with a smoked one, are clear ones really that hard to find?
Tyres were suspiciously illegal considering the car was only a month or so past when the MOT was done, cords poking through!! An without wishing to do anyone down I suspect maybe there was alloys on it before at some point... well maybe perhaps that's wishful thinking, so that's four tyres to find straight away.. Oh and some wheel trims, the original ones where in worse shape than packet of broken mini cheaders!!
Then as I discovered driving it a fuel leak from the fuel filter, good thing I don't smoke
Managed to get some tyres that didn't have cord poking through eventually, all second hand but branded so the car will handle a lot better now!! And found in the garage a nicer set of wheel trims, and a clear indicator so the car looks a little more resonable.
Also bought a better wing and bonnet!! with some actual paint on
Anyway time for the bonnet to go!!
Number plate was also a bit battered, although a new one did come with the car so have put that on since the photos.
And finally the finished result, .. well admitedly not much of transormation but amazing what some wheel trims and some panels can do for the look of a car!!
Shortly after this my Aunty desperately needed a car, as her old car failed the MOT miserably!! So I decided as I wasn't sure what I was doing with it, I may as well loan her the car.. that was last September! Flew through the MOT amazingly, inbetween guess some legal tyres do help hey!
Fast forward to last week, and with the arrival of a shiney new Punto for my aunty meant that I got my Punto back
Doesn't look too terrible, paintwork it still bad and the interior looks like a skip so will have to drag the trusty Henry out to sort that out!! Anyway the engine has a water leak and the offside rear trailing arm is worn so the rear wheel is enjoying some camber!!
So some things for me to do/ swear at, question is what to do with it? Well despite it's shabby appearence it's quite solid underneath, and I was looking to use a car for Autotesting other than my Uno so think this with the 6 speed box has some potential!!
It certainly goes well for a 1.1, steering and handling definitely need looking at. Anyway first things first, see what the car is going to need and then hoopefully sort some rimmage and paintowrk out.
Can't afford a respray, so going to have to think about how to sort that without breaking the bank!!
