Hi All,
Just bought some Redex from the the local shop... its the Petrol Injector one though. I don't think they have one for carburettor engines. Will this be ok to use with my 1.1 Ohv Escort?
just before i take it back... really need to use some asap.
Chris

Off the top of my head (thinking back to my Halfords days) I don't think there was much difference between the two.. I'm pretty sure I put a load of the petrol injector one through my MGB once when we had a split bottle that needed 'throwing away' I don't think it would make a difference, but I'm sure someone with a more definitive answer will be along shortly

I wonder why injector Redex is clean , but the old stuff you put in carbs filled the street up with white smoke [ the reason i used it ] . I wonder if it was just a bit of something to make it appear it was doing something ?

I wonder if it was just a bit of something to make it appear it was doing something ? Probably something to do with EU regulations about naughty boys playing with dangerous toys. I remember my brother sticking some in his Magnum, then flooring the throttle and sparks flew out of the exhaust - which proved to him it was doing something. At night you'd see a shower of sparks whenever he floored the throttle when he had Redex in the tank. I'm sure they put something in there to produce an effect out of the exhaust. I must confess I never thought it did any good at all, but I had a car with a sticky valve and didn't have time to sort it. I lobbed some Redex in it and within a few miles it sorted itself out and never gave any problem afterwards. Maybe coincidence but I wasn't complaining.

The Redex me and my brother had in the 90s you poured down the carb [ Nova SR ] , and you had to give it some beans to stop it stalling . Great fun anyway . That and some Turtle wax colour magic and a feu orange and your car was sorted !

Better than the muppet I worked with in a backstreet garage back in the 70's - he annoyed one of the mechanics so much that the guy let it slip the real way to tune an engine is to put some brasso* in the fuel. Told him it's meant to polish everything up nicely.
And he went and did it.
*Other metal polishes are available.

I think I read that all Redex (and others) do is induce knock and that (the knock!) cleans all the soot of the valves!

We once convinced someone that they could run their car on a bottle of Redex put into the fuel tank and then fill up with water, when the car wouldn't run we then convinced him it was because he had put the Redex in first, never saw him again after that.
