@johnnybravo what is FOD that you mention? Also, I presume it is beyond your skill set/equipment requirements to get the housings rechromed or remade in something new?

Foreign Object Damage. I could make new housings but it's not time or cost effective.

Ah, I couldnt work it out! that makes perfect sense I did wonder if the time and inclination was the reason for not making the housings, it's not like the car is needed to be finished by chri......Retro Rides weekender next year

The curse of the disappearing housings blights another rotary build If it's any consolation... and I know it isn't... try finding some 12A ones and then bleat about how difficult it is getting 13Bs

B*gger... not good to read/hear. Shame you skipped them, still worth decent money to those folk who make clocks in engine casings and then sell them for silly money - see them at the NEC every year. Something similar to... Still it's understandable as to why you don't want to be looking at them...

I've got any number of 13B housings. Trouble is, they're all pre-knackered and not even worthy as clockstands

hang on a moment, you say 13b housings can be machined down, and you also said making housings is too expensive etc etc. how about making oversize rotors and over-sizing the knackered housings. Is this not an option.

Not worth hard chroming,? we used to use a a hand held plating machine fro repairing printing cylinders,

Atmo V8 Power . No slicks , No gas + No bits missing . Doing it in style. Austin A35van, very different------- but still doing it in style, going to be a funmoble

Not worth hard chroming,? we used to use a a hand held plating machine fro repairing printing cylinders, Costs involved make it uneconomical to repair once you factor in regrinding of the trichoidal shaped housing.

Onto the fun part. Cleaning .My least favourite job.Started with the rotors because they are easy and the cleaning fairies like them,if you provide suitable accommodation. Into the magic kingdom aka fecking big pot. Fairies invited and fairy tent set up Left alone to their own devices for a while, and out they come ,nice and clean These have 3mm apex seals which are of no use to me. They're in good condition so I will move them on. Talking about seals, for those who would like to know, these are the springs and seals associated with a rotor Irons or intermediate/ end plates are a bit more fiddly to clean. But,I have a cunning plan. Off to find a big salad bowl. Stay tuned....

The seals that go into a rotor fascinate me to some extent, they seem so small and delicate. Thankfully I never had cause to have the engine on my rx7 apart! A 13b of some description is still top of my mental list of desired engine swaps for my MGB whenever I get round to it Glad to see updates on this again!

Just finished reading the complete topic, wow what a journey.
Happy you landed well as self employed, I know from experience that the first time can be rough. Good to see you did find some time for your hobby, Hobby is a good way to relief stress.
Very interested in the rotary engine, keep the updates coming

Last seen, JB was on the hunt for a salad bowl. Now,let's get one thing straight. We are not talking about your regular salad bowl as used by the Tofu and celery stick munchers, oh no. This salad bowl was to be be a thing of beauty, on a grand scale. Contrary to Mrs Bravo's belief that I should go on a self starving regime and get in to shape,I won't be just yet. Besides, I have a body of a God... Well, Buddha is a God isn't he? And besides, why get into shape? I am a shape. Round is a shape... Anyways, on the hunt for a SALAD BOWL. It turns out that the good people of Poland like a bit of Salad on the side. And on the middle. Actually all over the table ,if the size of the salad bowl that arrived from Poland three days later is any indication. 😳 Now we are talking Man salad. A bowl where you can combine not just a lettuce with a bit of chicken and a few other randomly slaughtered vegetables, but rather a bowl where you can combine all the fresh produce from Aunty Doris's greenhouse with all the chickens from a small farm..Not that this bowl was going to be used for that, peace and vegetable rights and all that, this was going to be filled with iron and cleaning gravy. Big box arrived. Unwrapped. A few choice words were uttered... It's got divits. Three of them 😡 Looks like our Eastern European delivery driver took out his childhood dislike for salad on my bowl. Maybe that's why he left in the first place,to flee the salad munching plague that was rapidly sweeping over Prague. What's a man to do? Contacted eBay seller and they agreed to replace it, or refund me. Full refund given 😊 Out with the hammers A bit of light bludgeoning later Took the wooden top off one of the benches and carved a salad bowl sized hole in the steel top Plates fit. Hmmm... I have a cunning plan....
