Could the copper pipe be the result of someone’s ham-fisted attempt to fill or suck out the oil, that’s been accidentally dropped into the engine? Unlikely , unless they were sucking the oil out with a syringe 😂😂😂 Very small bore pipe Some of the oil suction pumps are small enough bore to let you do an oil change via the dipstick hole... Never under-estimate the power of stupidity, the type of person to put that in there may well have been using a syringe! Some interesting marks on that pipe though, likewise with the ends being chewed up, makes you wonder... how's your forensic analysis these days? Regardless of the questions raised, good to see some progress Indeed, stupidity is a powerful thing 😂

so is it 3/16 brake pipe, or is the perspective out of whack?

I've found some fun stuff in engines before but that new! Good luck with the internal gubbins.

Pile of washing up getting bigger Pulled the front stationary gear No signs of copper... Motor flipped over for rear stationary gear removal Rear stationary gear removed, again, no visible damage Wanged out all the mainbolts Remember this vaguely familiar part? I remember where I have seen that shape before... Its the bottom of a broken off oil filler cap. Can only surmise that the engine got bumped whilst in storage, breaking the cap off. With the oil filler tube now open, that little copper pipe fell in. Time to split the keg and see what horrors lurk within...

So so do you need to find another one the same to play with or have you got all the bits now ? These engines are fascinating but weird! James

Should finish tonight I was wondering about the bits to go from 2 to 3 rotor as much as is this one OK ? CNC's up and running on a job so time to play ? James

maybe they were using the microbore pipe as a fishing rod, and then that broke off inside the engine too...

James Until it's stripped,I cannot say. From the outset it was going to be an organ donor for thr three rotor. Busy at work, but not much time to play as I have a span of drawings to do...

Fascinating thread, i´m glad you´re back on it to some degree. Do you need to source another motor to make a 3 rotor version?
Panther tracks?! And they aren´t even destined for one of Mr Wheatcrofts four that he has?

Unfortunately it's looking like another donor engine might be required 😕 Kevin is a complex man and at the moment he seems to be his own worst enemy. He seems to possess an uncanny knack for rubbing people up the wrong way. He has had a major falling out with the guys that were restoring his Panther, and both have walked out. Without divulging too much, the general consensus of opinion is,that the older he gets, the more unreasonable/uncooperative he gets. I would be prepared to wager that his Panther will never get finished in his lifetime. Sad but true....

Welcome to the stripshow. Front plate off revealing the front rotor and chamber No sign of FOD, which is good news 😊 Front plate worn, but probably useable Front rotor and rotor housing removed revealing the centre plate, usual pile of poo from the water channels. Rear plate off, exposing the rear rotor and housing Rear plate again worn, but possibly useable Rotor housings don't look bad,do they? Wrong 😢 Both scrap as apex seals have worn through the chrome, with the smaller, end piece of the two piece apex seal machining a groove into the housing Extent of how far gone the apex seals are, these should be flat on the lower side. This engine did big miles... This was a disappointment. I had hoped that this engine would have yielded at least one good rotor housing,so pretty gutted that both are scrap 😢 The search for another donor continues. Have already skipped the two rotor housings as I didn't want to see them any longer than I needed to. Didn't even bother cleaning them,as the damage was so apparent. Cleaning of the other parts continues. Not a total waste of time,as this engine will donate some of its parts to the three rotor ,shortblock build, just not as many as I would have liked...

Not at this rate we won't. Housings in good condition are hard to come by and I don't relish the idea of £900 each, new from Japan including freight and import duties... The search continues.....
