I was really keen to catch up with this after being away for the weekend. What an amazing story! It doesn't look as bad as it could have been... well, the interior is wrecked but it looks generally car-shaped. I agree with street - I think it should be cleaned up and made to run, just as they intended it to be in 1957. Not restored, just all that grease wiped off it as I'm pretty sure that's what they envisioned back then.
I suppose its fate lies with whoever has won the car - they may want a full resto, they may ebay it off, or they may donate it to a museum and leave it covered in cack. I really hope it just gets cleaned off and maybe made to run, and displayed somewhere.

Not sure about making it run, that would probably mean a new motor. If water filled the vault then surely it would have got in and filled the cylinders rusting up the bores etc.
Bottom end may be ok i guess, surely all the anccilaries (sp) will be shagged too.

Yeah I see what you mean. I thought that it was only 2 or 3 feet of water, but if it has been completely submerged at various times over the last 50 years then yeah, there ain't much hope for that motor! ;D

Apparently - "In 2037, the town will unveil a 1997 Plymouth Prowler which will have been buried in Centennial Park as part of the city's founding ceremonies."
Really? anyone heard of that?

only just managed to get online and see how this turned out, its a bit worse than what i was expecting, but what a piece of history though! i think it should not be cleaned and put into a museum (even though it would be interesting to see what its like under the cack)

The winner has been revealed, and he died in 1979... The family are going to decide what to do with the car. More here

The more I look at those pics the more I think it would be a lot better than people seem to think.

yeah, looks ok to me but I read that the rear chassis has collapsed. Its still more work than is viable if you have to pay a pro to do it. For a DIY resto, maybe, but it will need all the mechanicals doing, a full retrim, welding, rechrome, repaint, etc.
