Not much going wrong on this one, lost a transmission cooler line, it popped a hole and sprayed the contents of the transmission out on the highway via hitting the underside of the bonnet and then running down the inner wing. Missed the engine totally, so no smoke or real notice that it had come to the end of it's life. Lost drive, threw it in neutral, but was close enough to an off ramp to coast to the garage at the end. They only had ATF, hose clamps and duct tape. Hmm. Challenge accepted. The Garage asked if I could not make a mess, I asked if they meant more of a mess than it was. I think they got that I was no harm to them. Apart from the puddle under the car, that they couldn't see at that point... It worked too! I changed both the lines after about 4 weeks, I have to admit I felt a little guilty leaving it that long. Transmission seems to have suffered no ill effects, but it keeps the manual swap at the front of my list of "things I would like to do" vs "things I need to do now". Had to do the pitman arms as the bushings were getting pretty thin, next will have to be the kingpins, but hopefully it'll see me through the next MOT in Feb. Also have been playing with a 3D printer, getting the last few brackets for the EFI TPS sensor sorted. I needed to change a 20mm throw at 60mm lenght to a 90' rotation. Finally, Got my winter tires sorted, $58 dollars each for some firestone winterforce. Should make the car into a snow tank, I think we will have to see, I'm less convinced that it'll be unstoppable, but I think I have gone for a more festive colour scheme on the spare set. What do you think?

Dear goodness this looks awesome! If you paint those in a rally silver I'd call it perfect!
EDIT - Maybe euro headlights...

Inspection (mot) passed today. not that it was really tested, the guy basically looked at it, filled out the paperwork and put a new sticker on the windshield. $35 for the honor, thank you very much. I know the car is ok, but I'm not sure how I feel about the test was done. basically not a single thing was tested, he didn't even turn the lights on.
but 12 more months driving privileges is 12 months of good?

Trust me, just don't want german tests either... Assuming the car is indeed roadworthy?

Don't stress, just give her the once over yourself and you'll be good to go! Over here people tent to think that as their car has passed it's check (MOT), it's road legal for another year.
Keep checking the base of the wings (front and back) and the insides of the bumpers...

Yeah, lived in europe for long enough and passed enough MOT's to know that if it passes on the day, all that meant was that the car passed on that day. It's not a free pass for another 12 months. Last year I had to get a retest, as I failed on a couple of small things, but this year I went to another station closer to home. I think it highlights the total variability of tests in this country. You see cars from New Hampshire and Vermont that you think there is no way that is roadworthy, I just didn't think it was AS variable in Massachusetts. Oh well, lets move on. I've ordered a pair of RetroJect throttle bodies after seeing the thread on the main page. I'll take some pictures when the sexy things get delivered. mmmmmm.... Sexy indeed.

Ahhhh... They have arrived. So now I am just waiting for the delivery of the linkage from JAM engineering, they expect delivery to me in about 3-4 days. Sadly it took much less time for webcon UK to deliver from the UK than a company on the west coast USA to get the "in-stock" parts made and on a truck. I need to make up some hard lines for the fuel delivery and return, I have already got the injector connections, so just the TPS flat connector to find.

You'd think that some 1/8th in thread pipe fittings would be easy and simple. T fittings locally were $18 each. I'm going to look online.

Retrojects are fitted, need a little more work for proper fitment and IAC to be right. Found that my CLT sensor has bitten the dust so need to pick one up this morning.
overall very happy, but I'm going to feed back to webcon UK that there are some production issues with the units. Connectors that don't work because screws in the way, not enough access to the mounting holes to get proper length bolts through - had to make studs in the end. little things like that, but also 100% better than the hats so I can use the stock merc air cleaner. they are garbage and disappointingly so. They were made by a company over here.

oops. its dead. died traveling down the road, and now won't start at all. I have fuel, I have spark, I have compression. It'll start and then immediately die. Pumping the throttle will get it revving, but within a min it's dead again. I had to admit defeat and AAA recovery is in progress. I'll have it back to my house and then work it out. Grrrr.

Problem #1 - Coil died, would give a few sparks and then peter out to nothing. Problem #2 - Megasquirt programming is off. got the car idling nicely, but will go mega lean at the merest touch of the right foot, like 22+ AF. Then idle is buggered. it starts hunting after that, but will eventually settle down again. Problem #3 - Start is hard, needs to be coaxed into life
All will be sorted. hopefully. might even get the IAC valve properly in use.

Really enjoying this thread. Interested to see how the injection works long term. Seems such a simple idea! As to tests, you want to try them here. For example, the Quezon City licencing centre has all the bells and whistles for a proper test, is very much in the minority here and consequently very quiet. At my local one in Malate you get an emission test (Peso 450 for genuine, 900 if you don't want actually testing) and a guy takes a pencil rubbing of your chassis number. He should take one of your engine number as well, but he can never be arsed on mine 'cos it's buried down the manifold. That's it. Then a couple of thousand Peso for the annual registration and, "Another 12 months trouble free motoring, Sir"

yes, I'm always amazed at the variable nature of government processes around the world.
reg fees for my car per year? $22. it is purchase price (or book value) less depreciation formula. depends if the rmv like the look of you I guess

So I decided to employ the use of someone with a dyno and some clues on what needed to be set in MS2 to rid me of a terminal lack of knowledge. In this case, I learned a lot about the tuning and the chap I was working with also spent a lot of time with me, answering and chatting about the general setup and next steps on the ignition aspect of the build. I arrived at 10am at the address in question for EFI Express in Lee, New Hampshire to be greeted with this sight. Yes, that is a road registered Scooby rally car. mmmm. They primarily had Audi's including 5 UR Quattros, a V8, a 200, a few 80/90, and many A6 variants. They also tuned and build some racers and are in the process of building a twin turbo testarossa Here is the engine out for mock up. Got my car on the dyno, and we set to sort out a few niggles before working on the VE table. Lets just say it was badly wrong because some of the injector settings were totally out, including low impedance vs high impedance. they cut out as soon as the ACCEL table kicked in. Can anyone guess how many horses have left the shed?
