Any advisory notes on the MOT? How does it run; any starting problems from hot or cold, overheating etc? Gearbox working as it should?
I'm not fussed about the paintwork, as it would be painted, but what's it like for rot and any welding needed?
Cheers

There were no adviseries for mot, some lights didnt work, handbrake was seized off, it did need some welding under the drivers seat, all done, hasnt overheated in the 4 years ive had it, altho I havnt used it for about 6 months. Also the gearbox is a bit lazy when its stone cold for about half a mile!

Nice project but it isn't a GXL. There are too many parts on it from a post '73 car. Wrong dash, wrong slam panel, wrong rear lights. Google the reg plate and you find it used to be red with square headlights.

Hi, is that a personalised plate that goes with the car?
Or is the car a ringer?

J plate is correct for 1971. However DVLA has it down as a 1.6?

J is correct for a 71 pre face lift MK3, this is a face lift car with a PFL grill.
So a ringer.

J is correct for a 71 pre face lift MK3, this is a face lift car with a PFL grill. So a ringer. There's all sorts of reasons that a car could have non-matching parts, especially one that's customised and over forty years old. This stuff is all worth knowing, more so if you're serious about buying, but your manner is all wrong. The term 'ringer' is generally used to denote an identity-switched stolen car, something I find it unlikely you can prove to the point that it's acceptable to post it here. The car could've easily been made of the best bits from two (or more) cars or undergone repairs at any point in it's life with whatever panels were available, without being stolen. The seller doesn't appear to be claiming the car is all-original (it's got metalflake paint and a V8, for heaven's sake!). I myself have had Morris Minors with later wings, Skoda coupes with early Estelle lights and late Beetles with pre-67 panels. Are they all stolen too? What a shame your knowledge wasn't accompanied by a little thought and respect.

Over the years i have seen many MK3s that have had their identity changed to avoid paying road tax and i am sure that this is the case with this car. This car is a face lift car, which were made from late 73 onwards. Points that make it a FL are slam panel (which is why the GXL grill doesn't fit), front indicators, rear light units and the complete dash is face lift. As of yet i have never meet anyone who has changed a PFL dash to a FL dash as all the mounts are completely different and they don't look as nice either. I would love to have a look under the bonnet to see what the front sub-frame mounts are like, perhaps the seller will take a few under bonnet shots. J plate cars are quite special and have certain bits which were soon dropped by Ford, i bet this car will have none of them. The term ringer as far as i am concerned, is a car that has had its identity-changed and pretending to be something it isn't but not necessarily stolen. Would it be right for eg to paint a 2 door MK1 Cortina white with a green stripe, drop in a lotus lump and con someone into paying £40 grand plus for it by saying its a Lotus Cortina. I don't have a problem with the car not being std but i do have a problem with cars not being what they are advertised as. So over to the seller, couple of under bonnet and in the boot pics please. PS couple of my pics.

In my opinion, if you're not going to buy the car, then what's it matter to any of the complainers! and wait for it.... "because we don't wan't people buying something it's not bla bla... well does it really matter that much to the guys complaining? are you losing you're money?? nope, so leave the guy to sell his car. i personally love it and wish i had money to purchase it Good luck with the sale v8chariot4men

I have also owned many Cortinas, Last year a pre facelift Mk3 was for sale and the owner had fitted facelift dash to it so it has been done. www.turbosport.co.uk/showthread.php?t=588406There are a features on the car that are from a later model, but an person years ago may have tried to update it to look like a facelift car. Then another owner may have tried to change it back again as values went up. It also could have been re-shelled who knows and does it really matter? You need to view it yourself and make your own mind up.

People are saying a cars stolen because it's been modified? I think their comments should be deleted because they have no evidence to back up their claims.
Its down as a red 1.6 because it's been resprayed blue and had a rover v8 put in it but dvla might not have been informed. Common sense prevails.
According to the claims 95% of Fords are ''ringers'' because xr2i's have rs turbo interiors, orions have escort Gti wheels, base spec fiestas have si body kits on...
My polo has 16v bumpers, a colour concept interior in and been resprayed. Must be a ringer!! My hpi check lied!
A Mk1 cortina made to look like a lotus is a replica not a ringer.

No, I think in this case the term ringer is used because it looks a lot like a 1973 on facelift car with the identify of a 1971 car in order to obtain tax free status. Changing the engine capacity on the log book could make the dvla request a vehicle inspection, which if the car is a genuine 1971 car would be of no problem.
The Dvla can call in the owners club to date the car correctly.
Happens quite a bit unfortunately, especially with Land Rovers, minis, scimitars, etc
Cool looking car, cheap too, and I hope it is just an early car fitted with later trim detail parts.
