Good interesting idea. Bookmarked.
Insurance..oooooH! rant alert. With all the recent changes, tax online blah blah did you know it costs around £50 to cancel your cover? That's cancel, not transfer. I had nothing to transfer to, (rather surprising and pi$$ poor planing on my behalf if I'm honest) and "well, you have told us you have sold the car, and it is illegal to dual insure a car and we tell the DVLA" This was the reply to " F^&* it! I'll keep the car!" long story short and my opinion: it is to do with the automation of policing. A camera does not look at the driver, just the car. A real police person does. Camera says insured. Person says:they're not insured to drive that, how is that wearing a test, is that the right colour disc for this year. does that 'plate belong to that car etc etc. I am not, and haven't been, a police officer by the way.....Spent alot of time in their company in the past mind..
Anyway, rant finished and a good story and write up. Keep at it and good luck. Don't let the insurance grind you down.

Love the idea for the thread and it will be a laugh and a bit of heartache but a good experience. you are technically a trader though. I had a traders policy a couple of years ago. I wasn't a trader but I went through a few cars so it just made sense. As long as they know your not a full time trader you shouldn't have a problem. I had everything from a fiesta to a v70 t5 on mine with a quick phone call no problem. The only stipulation was that I had to have ten cars in the year which considering I already had four wouldn't be hard. Good luck with the mission

Nice new car mate On the how much fuel do you leave for the new owner question.... I think what tends to happen with me is if iv already got my new car then the car getting sold will get parked up with whatever fuel it has in it. Then people turn up and want to test drive it and il maybe take it to work one day or to the shop and all the time the fuel is getting lower and lower and I'm thinking sod it I'm not putting more in it might sell tomorrow, and it becomes a bit of a game of chicken as to how low il let it get till i grudgingly stick a fiver in it! does that help lol!!

That Rover looks very straight. Something different especially as an estate. A nice set of MG hairpins would look good. Cant think when I last saw a saloon let alone an estate version of these.

While Mrs pistonpopper is making some delicious fish finger sandwiches i figured that maybe a little tea-time update is called for! Fistly, barryj75, who do you insure with? Secondly... That Rover looks very straight. Something different especially as an estate. A nice set of MG hairpins would look good. Cant think when I last saw a saloon let alone an estate version of these. I couldn't agree more... How does this look? Hopefully better than the steel wheels with the bin-lids! Actually, i've always thought that the 416 tourer was a smart looking car, but the more i look at it, the more i like how it looks, especially now it's wearing some alloys!

That looks great, especially with those wheels. My dad had one of those for about a year when they were new (he worked for Rover) and I thought it was a bit curse word but it has aged well.

A slight hi jack but did they do a turbo tourer? I know we have the TomCat and Saloon but a turbo tourer as a sleeper ? Now that sounds like a good idea! I reckon that would be pretty neat, and this would be a good one to start with, i've never seen a car so clean, and solid! But for me i think it needs little more than a bit of a lowering. If someone wants to take it further, and i really hope that someone here wants it, rather than just letting it go to someone who won't realise how special it is, then it will be up for grabs in a couple of weeks! I was looking at it today with a friend of mine who is big into his Rovers, and another, i'm gong to call him more of an acquaintance who is a used car dealer. Anyway, the friend was saying how clean it is, and how he's not seen one like this in a very long time, the acquaintance, the used car dealer seemed quite interested in it too, anyway he asked me how much i paid for it, so i told him it was just £552, he then made a sharp intake of breath before telling me i'd paid too much! He then said that when i came to sell it, the last thing i should do is put photos of the engine bay on the advert because apparently it looks too good, and it will put people off as they'll think the photos are not of the same car i'm selling. I discussed this with my friend after the acquaintance had left, and he reckons, and i agree with him that the engine bay sort of shows how clean it is, and the sort of previous owner its had, as it all seems to have the factory tags and labels on everything. My mate also reckons that my car dealing acquaintance probably said that so that he might be able to get it from me cheaply, as he also told me not to photograph ther interior either. So, on that note, here's a few photos from under the bonnet! lol So what do we think? Pretty clean isn't it? Should i take my car dealing acquaintance's advice, or should i include under the bonnet, and interior shots?

I think your acquaintance is a moron/after if cheap.
Thats at least a £1k car with the right advert, to the right person.

Tidy car. Dunno how you do it. I get attached to my cars. I'd love to be able to chop and change.[/quote] It's not easy mate to be honest, and it's taken me a long time to get to the point where i can just chop and change. I guess it's a bit like keeping animals to eat, you don't name them, once you name an animal you won't eat it because you love it! (i'm from a farming background) You just need to get into the mindset, when i buy a car i think to myself, right, we'll have it for a bit, have some fun, then let it go. (incidentally, i don't name my cars either, any of them! I've always thought that practise was a little strange, but each to their own.) But every time i sell a car though i do think, damn, that was a great car i should've kept it, and if i was Jay Leno i would keep them all like he does. But i've got neither the money nor the storage space for them all. Having said all that, i've got a few cars in my collection that i don't have any plans to sell, my first car, a 1979 Chrysler Alpine, my 1932 Ford roadster pick up that i built, and my 2005 Ford Mustang that i nearly starved to death saving up for! Although, since having my children i've thought several times about selling the 1932 Ford that i built simply because we can't all go out in it, but if i do sell it, it will be because i'm building a beach buggy or something like that. Speaking of my children, oddly its them who miss the cars when i sell them, and they complain to me and tell me not to sell them. I sold my Ka about six or seven weeks ago, and the buyer finally picked it up yesterday, and both my girls were gutted when it drove away, i had to take them out for a long drive in the Rover to cheer them up! My youngest girl who is only 5 years old still talks about a mid nineties Ford Thunderbird that we had when she was just two years old, and how she still misses it, it was her Thunderbird apparently! To be fair, i miss it too, it was a lovely car, but it had to go, because i'd replaced it with a Škoda Felicia Fun! But as i said, you just need to get your head around the idea that you're not in it for the long term, buy it, enjoy it, experience it, then set it free again! It's the only way, especially if you've got a massive, and constantly growing, and evolving list of cars you'd like to own someday.

There used to be a Knightfire Red Tourer round my way with a T16 Turbo conversion, proper smart. Infact, I saw another lowered dark red tourer only the other week! It may have been the same car but had a different exhaust to the other I mention seeing in the past. I tell you, low with 200 BRM rims is a very good look... They're a very sleek estate if you ask me
