I get the frustration but you've come so far! My BMW was in the same condition, looked only a bit tired on top but needed to have the bottom 5 inches all round replaced when it came down to it. At the very least I would look for a better car or shell and use the one you have as a donor - easiest and cheapest way to restore a car when you make one good car from combining the best bits of two. some of the issues are that spare panels for this car are expensive and hard to come by. i really don't have the budget to buy any more panels or a second car even if i could find one. ive also only got the garage slot untill the end of april (its a communal garage and you can only get 4 month slots) and welding rules in the garage are extremely tight. and once i get kicked out of the slot i have no where to store the car. :/ and once i get kicked out, i'll need to buy all new rubbers every where to stop water getting in. its just the wrong car and wrong time at the moment to try and do a full restore. i don't mind working on any car, so i don't count all the work done as a waste, just as learning experience

It's a shame you cannot complete this project but there are times when it is better to call it a day than to break yourself trying to fix it up!
I am sure that this car will go on to help others which is a great thing in itself...
Also, I am sure that by starting to get stuck in to rebuilding this car you've further boosted your confidence in being able to do certain things you maybe struggled with before?! In which case, that's a really good thing...
All in all I think that by giving this project a go you've done the right thing and by saying "enough is enough" you've most certainly done the right thing...
I am sure we are all looking forward to seeing your next project...

THATS IT, GAME OVER, GOOD TRY FOLKS. ... sadly the car will soon cease to be. however i am trying to salvage (and sell) as much as possible to keep other ones on the road. so if you do need any bits please feel free to pm, i do have some spare panels aswell as what comes with from factory. I'm just back from a few days holiday and sorry to hear the news - hope things look better after a few days away from the car but let me know if you decide it's too far gone to save. Out of interest, where are you based?

so here are pics of most of the stuff that would of needed doing ^^^that was the passenger side sill from the out side what is doesnt show was the out rigger here that was held together by paint , below is from the inside some one tempted a patch here but clearly got bored and only did a small amount of it. drivers side floor below pics of doors every door has significant rust on them, 3 out of 4 would at least need the lower part reskinning do you think this gives enough room for the handbrake cable? inside shot of drivers side sill, bits i still needed to batch in including a rather big hole in the floor random parts of car that need fixing and here are some important (some even structural) parts of the car that came off waaaaaaaaaay to easily yes, those last to was meant to be welded to the bottom of the outer sill as you can see, no grinding or cutting was used to remove this piece ^^^half of this of this patch was very good, the other half that was meant to be welded to the outer sill, wasnt. no welds, just some rubbish filler that didnt work and underseal filler, from the hole in the door, yay. and just to top it off, this is where the leaf spring should be solidly attached to. holes around this area are some what frown upon.

That's a lot further gone than the first images in the thread intimated. Very wise to walk away given the garage circumstances, that's a lot of fabrication and repair required.

Yeah even for a Hunter that's pretty ridiculously rotten. Sadly probably only good for spares then.
WTF is going on with that rot on the rear parcel shelf??!

I really have no idea why that's so bad, The rear windscreen lip where the rubbrer sits is in really good nick, so no idea where the water got in from

I had the exact same car but in a kingfisher blue type colour as a project a few years ago. I gave up on it too, for pretty much the exact same rot (or previous bodges hiding it).

Sorry to hear, wish I had some spare cash as I'd take a few bits off your hands for my Vogue. Unfortunately after building my garage and trying to fix my Imp I'm skint!

That's a familiar looking car, in fact if you opened the workshop door in the back ground of some of the photos you'd probably see the yellow snout of a certain Scimitar.

Ahh yes, but doing that may take the attention from what was my project But I can tell you one thing, your scimitar will soon have some wicked rear lights

Is there any where to park it outside the unit you are in with a cover over it do you could do bits as and when rather than trying to get everything done at once, the doors for example aren't critical and could just be duct taped while you got around to doing them?

so, the humber had one last gift for me, the possibilty of a new project. there's a chap who wants/needs humber parts, but doesnt have enough money to pay for them. but he does have a project car he no longer wants. this project car to be precise: the car needs a little body work, but nothing compared to the humber and currently doesnt start. so as long as the car is structurally sound and doenst have too much of the tin worm it will be mine. cars of this area mechanically simple and there are limited number of reasons why the beast wont turn over. if i do get the car (viewing it sunday) ill start a new thread on it. so watch this space.

a very blue Viva could be a very good exchange. They do like to rust, more so than other Vivas seemingly, but they also tend to be quite honest about the rust so don't normally have surprises hiding, what you see is what you get.

Just to let you know... the bits I scavenged off your Hunter are being put to good use (since last week I've fitted a *hot* heater with 2-speeds, 2-speed wipers, and fixed the waterloss with your rad cap More to follow soon ) we had a Viva years ago (a 1300 SL from memory), great little runabout - even with a snapped peg on the distributor drive.
