Hi, Sorry it's been a while, but always working towards progress. I started a business, when the old employer said how much damage can one man do....now they say...how can one guy do that! So business is going well? I have painted all the engine tin...and just bought a 944 rear end...not sure what i'm doing though. I fell...and bought these... Which meant I had to get this or add 70mm spacers each side... Front, 20mins later I have a free hub ready to install. 8ugger, I don't have anything this big....bit stuck, Ebay will sort this....17mm Allen socket but only on Tuesday.... Not sure what i'm doing,,,but the spring plates don't look like they will work, so I will remove the spring plates from the 944 rear end and use them...think they will fit?

So got the parts I needed today, I needed a VW trailing arm bush, for the porsche trailing arm, 17mm Allen key and 600mm 1/2inch breaker bar. Cracked on, We know from previous photos the rear brakes are new, new handbrake cable....also as per the photo new trailing arm bushes. (Even the flywheel on the engine has now sign of starter gear engagement) Only broke one bolt on the Torsion bar end plate...very pleased. That left me here.... Next problem, Porsche fix this by putting a hole here....no such luck here. Finished here, Holesaw and Dotpunch to be ordered, I need to drill out the broken bolt and cut a hole in the guards to free the Torsion bar ends. (Good news, the Covin torsion bars look blue and new) I plan to change these for the bigger 944 bars anyway.

Got my hole saw this week and some other stuff...Ending up going from this... to this.... And then this.... Torsion bars Red is current, the other is 944 and bigger, so I will install them. (944 is not rear engined) Pulled the disc caliper off as it was locked solid, then needed to remove the driveshaft...not sure why but its locked at an odd angle...so I needed the short 12 star key....8ugger cant find it....so the next 4 hrs was a tidy up...still now 12 point key, but garage is more workable now. Also cut down the 944 Torsion bar end cap, so it will fit my chassis.(no photos, mostly I forget or get too involved in what in doing)

Hmmm...its been a long time, but not all without action. I have fitted and re-fitted the trailing arms many times and now take around 15 mins to re-fit...had some clearance issues on the spring plates and other problems. I have decided to go back to the Beetle torsion bars, my thinking is the 944 car is heavy...and mine is lighter than a beetle so should be fine. Some Porsche bits annoy me, checking the photo below you will see how offset the holes spring plate end plate...this is standard but does my head in. I removed the rubber due to this and the poly is just the same. Note the end plate is 944, and been re-worked to fit. Might have to change the wheel bearing on the drivers side it is not so smooth. (parts ordered) But ready from brakes now, so need to find another 944 Caliper then I can consider the rear finished. I have new 911 glass rubbers and will work on those next...I was going to leave it ready for paint, but I don't care now...get it road going and then consider paint

So the drivers side took 6mths to change out the trailing arm and wheel bearing, I was not looking forward to the passenger side. Sat morning I refused breakfast to start on the passenger side and get it sorted that day...installed the trailing arm, and changed the wheel bearing...all done before lunch...moved the car out of the garage to sweep the garage...which was my weekend goal! Mojo restored.

Still not feeling sure on painting, I put an ad for someone to paint it and how much on Facebook? then the offers flooded in to buy it....I think everything is for sale, at the right price...on my way home that price was £3k. Then my wife asked what if someone buys it? I have since decided its not for sale...its my weekend therapy.

Always loved the Covin, kick myself daily for walking away from one a few years ago at £1000. There is one in the back of this months classic Porsche mag. OTR £4500 I think.
Either way lovely car.
Don't suppose you still have the old wheels?
Edited to add...
996.2 looks fantastic as well! Always liked them but could only just justify the 3.4 which are prone to problems.

This 996.2 has a fresh "Hartech" rebuilt engine...so the original engine design problems have all gone away now. Covin has the rear end in, and pulled it out the other day, hope to paint it soon....just got to get the "stones" to learn how.

New unused...but half a job? Previous owner had money to burn...but didn't understand the basics...like hose clamps?

Being that I have brakes...and a working engine and a 50mtr driveway....I will try and dig it out of the garage and run it up and down the driveway a few time to recharge the Mojo.
My biggest issues are the paint is not finished yet, and the wiring is a mess, using the original loom I get 10v at the distributor and 12v where the wire runs are shorter. I wired the new Alt exciter wire to the choke/Distributor power wire, but didnt think it would also feed the dizzy power when the ignition was turned off.
It wont start on the key...often.
So another project to replace some of the major wires and improve 12v power flow around the car.
Always more work, not less!
