Hi My Name is Alex i am a 17 year old apprentice and i have recently purchased my dream car. I have always wanted one of these for some reason and when the opportunity arose i took it for the grand sum of £400 it was mine i have big plans for this car but as ever money is tight so i will be slowly getting parts and bits when i can afford them. I plan on building the car into a fast road car and general posemobile with Big wide wheels and arches and exciting things so any way here she is. So as you can see she has some rust but she is mostly all there there's a few bits of interior missing but I'm not to bothered as it will all probably get ripped out anyway. I'm just waiting for some tools and to get some sheet metal and i will get cracked on with the welding. Cheers Alex

I restored one of these for the wife about 18 months ago - we´ve done 12,000km so far and it was off the road for 5 months in the Winter ! Cracking cars and the rubber bumper models are brilliant value - best of luck with your project ! Martin.

Right so my first job was to Completely replace all the fuel lines in the engine bay as when i test drove the car there was fuel spurting onto the exhaust manifold which was interesting when it got warm. Old fuel lines New Fuel lines going on I do have a new fuel filter on order but it hasnt arrived yet After i had done that i decided that polishing the steering wheel would be a good idea and it does look mint i must admit Before During After
And fitted back into the car makes the damp interior look a bit more friendly Jobs like that really make me smile as it makes the car just that bit more special. Next on the list is to pull the carbs off and give them a clean and bit of a general service. Cheers Alex

I was astounded by how cheap this was i had to have it they are amazing cars the only experience i have of this is when i had it sideways around the previous owners farm haha. Nice, looking forward to seeing your progress. Hopefully it's not as rusty as mine and you manage to get it done in a timely manner have you poked the sills and floors yet?

Cheers Mate the drivers side floor has a hole in it under the pedals and the rear part of the passenger side sill is dust so it needs some work there I'm gonna get some more pictures of the rot today. It looks a solid car but i havent seen whats hidden behind the wings or anything yet haha. Cheers Alex

Well i really want a Weber DCOE however i cannot afford one, so these will have to do for now I'm collecting the bolts for them tomorrow they look amazing and i think they will look beast and sound class once fitted. I also have a new coolant hose set to be fitted which will probably be done later this week or weekend as I'm going to do a full system flush. Any way here's some photos of the trumpets I'm sorry for the poor photos. Cheers Alex

Ditch the exhaust system and just run a cherry bomb back box, coupled with open trumpets the B series sounds really angry. I run filter socks on mine but it's just because the engine bay is filthy and it (was) driven all year round. Now it's getting either sold or an MX5 engine. Time will tell.

That's the Plan mate i already have a cherry Bomb in the garage I'm gonna chop the middle box out and run a straight through .I'm unsure whether i should run a filter or not yet. I really like your car and really enjoyed reading the project thread well done. I think it would go well with a Mx5 engine i always fancied a Vtec Honda lump in mine but i want to get it on the road first. Cheers for the Comment Alex

Cheers for the Comment Alex Cheers, It was a labour of love but with an impending dog adoption and 2 other cars its a bit up in the air with what we do. I'd like to keep it, its so cheap to keep on the road. I've bookmarked your thread, I look forward to seeing what you do with it. Good luck with the welding. I highly recommend you remove the front wings as there are some awful grot traps up there that can hide some pretty savage structural rot, I only removed the lower 6" of the wing to replace it and found that the inner sill and wing strengtheners were made of fibreglass. Nothing on these is overly difficult to repair though once you get going, so keep at it. Hopefully yours won't be too bad!

Thanks Dude i appreciate the support I'm definitely going to remove the wings as i want to make sure its 100% solid as i plan on keeping it as long as i can. It doesn't look to bad from the outside but i can see cardboard in the sill so god knows what its hiding. I hope to learn alot of my welding skills on this and I'm keen to get started on it Cheers Rich:thumbup:

I also had a chance to quickly whip the Number plate board off and admired how much cleaner the back end looks ( Apologize for the massive sun glare) I also decided when i was bored to take a wheel and check out the condition of the inner arches and also have a quick check over of the suspension when i was there it all looks in okay condition however the majority of this will be getting replaced and reconditioned and hopefully a coilover conversion will be on the cards in the future Inner arch is toast as you can see below Next job is to change the cooling hoses as they turned up in the post and they are all split so i need these sorted so i can run the engine and set the carbs up. Cheers Alex
