I have always wanted to make a car chase video... But- that's a long way off. It's sub zero cold outside and I took a shot in the dark on cheap tires today. I found out one thing I am totally terrible at: Guessing or sizing rear tires with nothing to guide me. The rim width, the wheel spacers, the ride height- So far, it's all been a guess. I bought some rear tires today for $20. Just to get a base line on size. They rub the rear of the lower fender flare. But the fronts, are good. Once I lower the car a little (after everything gets installed I will see how much). I can't go any bigger with the fronts, they'll rub the tie rod/track rod. All four rims are exactly the same, but it's hard to tell with these monster truck tires on the rear. I'm just happy to see it off of those terrible tiny 14inch stock wheels.

So far, the paint color options are White, Black, red? Not going to paint it yellow, these cars don't work in yellow. Suggestions & samples please?

At first I thought you were joking, then I said to myself, "Wait a minute-Rally cars are painted all kinds of crazy colors". You might have something there. I am leaning towards one basic solid color though.

Perhaps something like this: Or this:

Dark blue would look good on a Biturbo. Wheels look good, wasn't expecting that TBH.

Next will be the radiator, battery mount, re-install the transmission, measure the driveshaft and since I'm now using shielding gas with my MIG welder, I'm going to make the driveshaft myself and have it balanced. Once that is done, it'll be a test drive. My guess because it is SO COLD now (-14 to -4C) that it's going to move a bit slower, plus my regular job has picked up a bit. I'll get back out in a few days.

Let's say I grab my torch from my shop, come over and we adjust those springs!! Hahahaha

Let's say I grab my torch from my shop, come over and we adjust those springs!! Hahahaha Oh yes, you're right about that. I'm going to cut the front springs after the car is assembled 100% as far as the driveline is concerned so that I can see it with the weight in it. Just adding the trans drops it a little lower.
Also, the car's struts, have all been hyper extended, they're junk on all 4 corners. If you tried to drive it like it is, it would Bunny hop like a kid on a BMX bike, all the way down the street. There's no dampening at all right now. I suppose that I should change the strut cartridges I have on hand and go through the brakes. None of that is connected either. So I'll get out there and do all of that before I cut the springs for a final ride height.

Get a couple of fat birds in the back for extra ballast.

I'm actually going to put about 250lbs in the boot. It's stupid light the way it is.

I've been looking and lovin' since you started this thread, you've done an awesome job I think Red with Dark Grey or Satin Black wheels would look perfect on this, it always screams 80's/90's Italian sports car to me. I'm sure whatever you choose will look killer though.

Thank you very much! I just did the air intake tube and got the correct sized tires on the rear. Tomorrow I am hoping to push it out into the snow & daylight to get a real good look at it.
The car hasn't been outside in the daytime in a month or so. It's gone through a few changes since that time.
Pics tomorrow, weather permitting. It's been insanely cold here with almost four feet of snow.

Funny, I'm in Findlay, have a Spyder and have been planning this same swap. Unlike you I've not made a single cut.
You're progress is inspirational.

It's a giant undertaking, but it's going to be worth it. Feel free to Pm me with any questions.
I can confirm the on the 1985 USA import Maserati Biturbo, you can use the front strut cartridges off of a 85-92 Volvo 740, 1983-1993 Volvo 760, 1988-1993 Volvo 780, 1991-1995 Volvo 940
The Sensen Strut part number is 2213-0056
I just completed one of them. You have to pound out the top cap nut's seal insert. Once you take that apart, the Volvo strut cartridge goes right in and the stock biturbo cap threads right back on. I'm cutting the springs now.

you might want to consider lowering the car by heating the coils with a acetylene torch and sticking to the number of windings(?) yhe less windings(?) you got the stiffer the coilspring will be, and they are allready stiff you can also use strutinserts from a e30 bmw (maybe some other bmw's too) i used e30 m3 ones. for the rear look at bmw e21.....
