Alright folks- Now THIS- is COOL. I still have lots to do, lights, heat/defrost, brake lights, transmission install, roll cage, sound deadening, carpet, proper fuel & brake lines, THE RADIATOR isn't in yet, the driveshaft made, some more structural bracing under the car, the relays for the power windows- There's work to be done. I absolutely, without a doubt could not have done it without the internet and the people that post there. I am forever in their debt. This is serious stuff, it's really important that I've learned so much in the last 2 years. You guys all have value, that stretches across the globe. If I were still in a hard rock band, I would belt out a giant 80's heavy metal scream. But I'm not. So forget that stuff. :laugh2: WELL DONE !!!

Thank you guys! It's fantastic when a project continues with few snags. I'm still concerned with the brakes and suspension, but hey- I've come this far, if the original equipment doesn't work or hold up to the abuse, I'll cut up an old Audi and make it work. No turning back now- this thing is going to rock.

Roll cage tubing is here. Welding tomorrow, now that the weather has warmed up to 2 degrees Celsius, which is warm for us this time of year. I heard tomorrow it might reach 4c.

These aren't cut to size. There are braces & gussets plus door bars. ![](http://www.fmxpaulgrenade.com/sitepics/1985/cage1.jpg) Not much progress made this weekend, but I expect to have this cage installed within a few days and I can finish the interior.

Special thanks to the Members of the Michigan Motorsports Hall of Fame Mace Thomas, the guy that taught me how to build a short track race car, along with his right hand man, Mark Adams. Mace's wife has passed but Mace is still around at 91 years old and when he starts talking about cars, he sounds like a teenager. They taught me so much. Amazing people. www.mmshof.org/inductees/mace-thomas/Here's a few things that came from them: ![](http://www.fmxpaulgrenade.com/sitepics/1985/w1.jpg) ![](http://www.fmxpaulgrenade.com/sitepics/1985/w2.jpg) ![](http://www.fmxpaulgrenade.com/sitepics/1985/w3.jpg) ![](http://www.fmxpaulgrenade.com/sitepics/1985/w4.jpg)

Will be reading this from the start again as I've just bought myself a Lexus V8 engine & autobox for a transplant into something weighing 750kg ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) Keep up the good work m8 ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)

Hello fellow Petrol Heads! I finally got to play with my toy today. Tomorrow will be minor braces & final welding, but this cage is IN. It's exactly like I pictured it in my rattling little brain. There will be sound proofing, floor carpeting and partial Maserati door cards. I think I can start the body work soon. Once it's all painted and assembled, it'll look cool- it won't seem like such a stripped out old thing. ![](http://www.fmxpaulgrenade.com/sitepics/1985/105.jpg) ![](http://www.fmxpaulgrenade.com/sitepics/1985/106.jpg) ![](http://www.fmxpaulgrenade.com/sitepics/1985/107.jpg) When the wheel spacers arrive, I'll pull it outside into the daylight and take pics with proper wheels on it.

Paul, looking forward to every report, I feel a bit like a groupie, but the tools you used for cutting the pipe seems fairly simple but super effective.
Never seen one, but are these sensibly priced?

Thanks Grizz, yeah it's called a Tubing Notcher and it's made for this exact purpose. They're about $50 usd for a cheap one, which is what mine is. I just "C" clamped it to the bench. Really nice ones are more money, but my cheap one is almost 10 years old and it's fine. I did a search for one in the UK and they seem to be in the 90 GBP range.
It's a big pain in the @ss to crawl around inside this car with a welding helmet on your head, but it's worth it.

I'm also In Cleveland, have almost the IDENTICAL BiTurbo! Mine is an 84, got it from a guy in Avon Lake. Had to join up to tell you I can't wait to see this thing going down 480!!! Pretty much identical to what I plan to do with mine once it warms up a little. Roll cage and some other bits, plan to attempt to keep the stock v6 and 5 speed though. I found some resources for suspension and have a lathe at my cycle shop if you need some aluminum bushings!!! ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) Todd

Wow, small world ay?
I sent you a PM. Pull a part on 130th has one of these cars in the yard if you need anything. It might be picked clean by now, but just saying. Awesome, let's race! hahaha I'm cleaning the garage mess today, back at it later this week.

The garage is all cleaned up, the car will sit until my next day off. Hopefully soon. This cage, was really time consuming. I've built cages before, but usually the car has no glass in it and you can weld easily. This thing was like a SMOKING TENT! I banged my head 100 times, my welding helmet was totally Pi$$ing me off, this was tough. But it looks like I had envisioned it would. Now that I can post pics and talk about it, the last 2 days were awesome. While I was actually doing it? Umm, no I was swearing & cursing out loud. You know the drill... ![](http://www.fmxpaulgrenade.com/sitepics/1985/smoke.jpg)
