Yes, thanks I will check that out and do some reading.
This car is LIGHT. All of that old Italian leather & fake wood interior weight is gone. Also, the engine & gearbox from the car, made my engine hoist strain a little when I took it out, but the new lump seemed like you could almost pick it up and put it in the car by hand. Massive difference.
To answer a question about the springs, I'm not sure how I'll handle it. I won't do anything until the car is fully assembled. It's possible I will end up with a BMW or Audi suspesnion under the car.
The hood scoop is bothering me more. I looked and have to do some more investigating, but I might not need it at all, but I want something there. I might run it backwards.
I'll do the same thing at the rear springs that I did at the front and do a final assembly of the car. I'll drive it and see what it looks like. If it's close, I'll leave it alone.
I'm also concerned about the brakes. I really want to find a set of vented rotors that fit the hubs and ditch the crusty old solid rotors and the almost certainly seized brake calipers. I want to use something cheap but common and easy to get parts. I'm going to have to have a look in the Auto parts store's back room to figure that out I think.

How did you know I like fat birds? hahaha Shh, don't say that out loud! I'm actually going to put about 250lbs in the boot. It's stupid light the way it is. Good idea.

Imho the scoop doesn't work in either dierction. You need something as wide as the two trim lines on the hood.

Oh holy curse word! That is AWESOME! I've wondered about white, as well as a dark blue/gray color. WOW that's cool!

I continue to love this build.
The red is good, but I think you need to keep a clear head about it.
Maybe someone who is good with Photoshop, can do you samples of various colours so that you can eliminate and create a short list of colours you really like.

Your progress in incredible! As for suspension, why not do a coilover conversion on your struts then you can pick a good spring rate for the weight? Get some nice e30 adjustable inserts (based on the other info given previously, and they're well served for tuning bits), should be a really tidy set up. Or leave as is, fit 22" chrome wheels for the full donk look?

Eeeew, Donk is a bad word around here. I despise those things, they're beyond horrible. It's quite a ways off from paint and I do like the red, but a black car with yellow accents would be ok- I just built a black car and didn't want another one, but if it turns out it's the best color for the car, then hey why not. White is in the running, as is black, silver and the Fiskar car company and BMW makes a metallic blue/gray color that's pretty cool.
The suspension will not be set up for a track, it will be set up for the streets, like a passenger car. It's also going to stay cheap, so that lets the coil over setup go. Strut cartridges were 40 USD each. That's the kind of parts spend that I like. $900-3,000+ Coil overs are out. I literally have less than 200 Pounds in the entire tire and wheel set, including spacers, so you know I'm cheap.
Once it goes around the block in another month or so, we'll see what the best, cost effective way to make it compliant with the road. Keeping it cheap. That makes it fun when you don't have a lot of money in it at the end and challenging when you solve expensive problems, inexpensively.
My son had a little go with Photoshop:

Ha ha, only joking about the donk, not my cup of tea either! I didn't mean buying a $2k coilover kit, I meant making your own: There's a few people who've made coilovers by sliding the threaded sleeve over the strut housing, see this thread from the Turbobricks forum The links in that appear to have died and you wouldn't have to shorten your strut housings either, but this is the kind of thing: Coleman RacingIf you were then to use a suitably adjustable insert for your strut (e.g. 2nd hand BMW e30) then you have a huge selection of spring rates (80-800lb) to choose from and ride height adjustment, for minimal extra outlay. $45 for the conversion kit + $50 per spring + some inserts = $220 for a custom front setup matched to the weight of the car I can't imagine you'll find an off the shelf (/junkyard) spring soft enough that'll go in your existing struts either... Man of your skills should have them knocked up by the end of the week!! p.s. my vote is for a dark silver or grey for the stealthy sleeper look

The coil over kit in that link is from Michigan, right around the corner, really. That's good info for sure because sure- I could cut the spring tray off of the stock tubes and fab those sleeves onto the stock tubes no problem. We'll see how it rides, but that's a nice cheap solution.

This stuff is more Plastic than it is a wood product. It will look like metal after it's painted. I've painted a piece to be sure. It's very light weight. Final trimming and fitment before paint. More later this week. The radiator is due any day.

I still love this project, fantastic idea and great craftsmanship and progress along the way. With the car currently being black with the yellow engine, I can't help but suggest it goes black with yellow and red graphics. Kinda like this fantastically late 70s / early 80s scheme; But much more subtle. Just twin stripes down the side with a kick over the rear, one yellow one red. If I had the time I would quickly draw it up in photoshop but alas I'm a little busy. And definitely different hood scoops. The one you have there, although it does the job, looks far too modern for the car. It could have a shaker hood scoop that would look right at home there!

The general consensus is, that I repaint the top of the engine and lose the hood scoop altogether. That keeps coming back, over and over. Seriously considering it.
My radiator came in the mail today. I'll put it in tomorrow and see what's what.
