I have one of these engines sat in my garage, the wiring looms are something else though. Been trying to find a link to get them to work with just the basics working but struggling.
I did find a man who make a loom to use the engines in rally raid cars & water pumps but it not cheap.

I'd love one in an E34 with a 6 speed box, not sure itll fit turbo wise what with the steering box and top mounted turbo on the m51d25.

Well I'm pleased to say that my idea worked with the loom and now she starts on the key. I need to get the radiator fitted to test the temp gauge but the Rev counter works and the battery light and oil pressure light goes off too.
I'll get a video up soon - sounds amazing with no exhaust on,

Ooooooh I likely this swap. Could you put up some measurements of the engine please? Wondering if one could be squeezed into a mk1 triumph

You need to share the loom idea!

Basically I sat down with the full bmw car and engine loom and traced all the Ecu, clock and transponder box wires out and trimmed the loom back until I had all the essentials I neded. There isn't much wiring to get the engine running however the engine can still be immobilised by removing the bmw key with the transponder in. Just a but of added security.
I'll be down with the car over the weekend so I'll get a video if I can. Plus Iv had the gear selector shortened so that's ready to fit too,
The only part I'm struggling on is sorting a speedo out as the bmw used the abs signal but the Granada obviously doesn't have it.

this is just thinking out loud and absolutely no specific help, but, are there any parts similarity to later sierras/mkIII/scorpio which would mean you could fit a cv/reluctor from a vehicle which DID have abs ? then just use a generic ebay pulse converter for the speedo

are you fitting the BMW rear subframe? it's quite a nice self contained thing and will have the ABS gubbins

Sorted a few bits out now like the inter cooler and finished all the water pipes. All the fly by wire throttle pedal is finished using the original granada pedal box along with the hydraulic clutch setup. I had a new clutch pipe made up so all that is working now too. Iv ordered a full set of -2" springs and dampers from gaz so they should be here shortly. I also found the required diff I needed so that's been welded up and fitted along with a new custom prop shaft from the bmw to the granada. And the video I promised. I'm just in the process of sorting a full 3" exhaust for it then it shouldn't be long then. Cheers

I loved my e39 tourer 3.0d, 5 speed, until it ate its turbo I would suggest you get a spare key, I had 5 keys in 6 years of ownership, they failed electronically, AND, BMW in their wisdom make 10 chipped keys, and do not make any more.... run out of keys, than its a new encoder etc..... The other problem I suffered with was the poxy inlet manifold, I had 2 fail, burst along the seam, when mine went the second time there were NONE on Ebay, I ended up buying a new one, £700+ lighter, it took about 30 mins to change, and 2 weeks later the Turbo went thru the engine, I scrapped the car, it did have 350k on the clock and was genuinely tired.... anybody want a non flap inlet manifold with less than 1k on it......

Cheers for the info v8ian. I have 2 keys luckily and they will hardly get any use now so fingers crossed they should last. I'll check my inlet also.
Iv got the new springs through fir it today and the dampers should follow in the next 3-4 weeks.
I need a good front brake upgrade now. What would work with the granada front setup?

Loving this conversion. A mate of mine has a 3.0td from 5 series in his Land Rover 90. Hell it goes well and sound the dogs doo dahs at full chat. I know that initially, he had a lot of problems with the loom and trying to get it to run though.

The Gaz springs and dampers are a good setup. I know Matt on herre who owns a black mk2 with FOO on the reg has some very low Gaz springs on his and that rides well from what I hear As for front brakes, if your car has the vented front discs, just get some decent quality discs, fast road pads and some braided hoses and you'll be sorted Anything else is a grand, and I don't see the need to pay that much for a brake kit for anything when there isn't going to be a significant difference noticed for most driving situations
