love it! may i be so bold to suggest some triangulation between the engine plate and the tubes ? looks like allot of potential radial load available Cheers yeah iv got a bit more to do on the mounts to beef them up a bit . I ran out of time last Saturday.

This is great work, absolutely fantastic engine too! Have you worked out the wiring yet? I have a cunning plan for the electrics, I'll see how it pans out though before I make a fool of it all! Haha

Uber Cool My 330D manual is an animal to drive and has a great turn of speed - would be great in a car no one expects. Def watching this with interest Question; Why stick with the BMW intake filter design. You could fit a cone type filter and eradicate your servo clearance issues I'm hoping it should be a bit of fun if nothing else. Ideally I want to keep all the engine plastics looking factory so to keep everything as BMW made it.

I love it when someone fits a new engine in a car that a lot of people write off as just being rubbish.
I know they arent, but this puts a whole new perspective on renewing an old car in the same way you'd re-plumb an old house.
I may be talking full on rubbish, but what I'm trying to say is, this is excellent.

awesome, I have a tuned 530d manual and my mrs has a tuned up 330d manual. both sound epic with a decat and straight pipes.
end of the day this will be faster than any Essex/cologne V6 or v8 rover engined mk2 Granada and return 50mpg day in day out. awesome

Make sure you ditch the swirl flaps in the intake manifold - the early engines like to swallow them and it does them no good at all.

Ok, well iv not managed to get much done due to messing with a p38 range rover. However, Iv made a start on getting the BMW radiator to fit along with the Diesel cooler and the BM header tank. How the front crossmember started: With a little notching on the corners: Radiator fits nicely now and the header tank mounted: Diesel cooler fitted behind the grill: And iv been fettling the BMW clocks to fit in the Granada housing. Needs a bit more work but nearly there: Iv just ordered a 550x200 bar and plate intercooler to fit next so I'm just waiting for it to arrive. More updates soon!

Early m57 engines didn't have swirl flaps anyways. My partner and I both have 2000/2001 530d manual and a 330d manual. Both of these left the factory with no swirl flaps. They bought them in at a slightly later date. Also strangely early 530d manuals had no swirl flaps but auto 530d's of the same age DID have swirl flaps.

What a thread! I would have been more of a fan of a V8 going in but there is no denying an M57 is quite an engine. This should make for quite a package! What do you plan to do for the brakes or suspension? Make sure you ditch the swirl flaps in the intake manifold - the early engines like to swallow them and it does them no good at all. Not quite correct..... I guess the flaps were fitted for more than simply emmisions as many people like to make out. A few peeps I know of have said that the flaps aid low end torque, which would explain why the flaps were on the automatic cars . I know that on a few cars that I have owned with the flaps either broken (being fully open) or removed does result in a loss of low end torque and general refinement IME. Granted that you do have to keep an eye on the flaps if they are in place mind you!

Love it. Great engine . I've a 525d and my brother has a 530d, very very quick engines and easy to work on. Make sure you remove the EGR valve ( blank it at the turbo ) or it soots up the inlet manifold . also change the engine filter at the back lhs of the engine for a swirl type part number 11 12 7 799 224 for a 2002 330d 184bhp. The standard filter has mesh inside that the engine eats or clogs up. I was informed as has been said above re flaps . The manuals don't have them Bookmarked :-)
