Unfortunately someone drove into the rear corner of my wife's KA, while I sat stationary in traffic. It was only a slow speed collision, the other driver was leaving a junction and must have presumed the traffic had moved, but it hadn't!
We exchanged details, and the insurance have been notified of the incident, etc etc. The left rear wheel of the KA took the brunt of the force, but there was basically nothing to see on the KA. I had a good look around the lower beam on the left band side at the time, checking the mounting points and stuff and it all looked fine.
Today I jacked the back of the car up to look at the now heavily blowing exhaust and saw this on the right hand chassis rail, above where the rear beam mounts.
Eeek! Now there is clearly corrosion, and I knew it was a bit swollen there when I was doing the other welding for the MOT 3 months ago but it wasn't split like that!
My question is, does the retrorides community think thats normal ford rust, or is that part corrosion, part crash damage? If I had it looked at by the insurance would they just say 'thats rusty and not our problem/ no the accidents fault' or are they likely to say that damage has been made much worse by the accident and therefore repair it (though I know we chassis damage on a 1999 KA they're likely to just write it off…)?
Anyway, thoughts?
p.s. this KA hates me. I've spent so much time and effort keeping the damn thing going to keep my wife happy, but the list of things that need fixing never seem to end!
