My brother was taking his Caterham to a track day and I was at a loose end, which is why I found my self at 8am parked up on Dunsfold main runway in the camper with a load of tools and spares in the back.... He was there in his 97 Supersport There were stacks of 7s in the paddock area and on interloper... It was the raffle prize, the owner gave a load of laps of the TopGear track to the winner....which wasn't me

The day was split in to AM/PM, we were in the morning group and had 3 hours to basically hoon around on the 4 activities on offer..... ......the wet freestyle area for doughnuts, J turns, spins, whatever you fancied..... ...its not as easy as it looks, but after a couple of attempts we both had the car revolving on the front wheel until we felt sick and had to stop next up was the slalom area, a drive up the track through coned gates spin round a cone and back again... ....this was the scene of the infamous "feet to big for the pedals" spin, I ran out of talent/turns of the wheel/space in the footwell to get the clutch down, and ended up the wrong way and with the engine dead, a flick of the key and we were off again, small race boots are on the shopping list now

Then we abused the tyres and the tarmac with the 0-60 strip, the basics being..... 1. roll up to the line and stop, reset timing box and wait for the flag 2. once the flag goes up you start when you like, bring the revs up to 4500rpm and dump the clutch 3. with minimal wheelspin the car will leave the line like a scalded cat and head for the far end of the runway (well 1/8th mile strip of it) a quick flick into 2nd gear and maybe 3rd and its time to brake again 4. read the timing box display and realise you've finally cracked it this was one of Darrens runs, his best was a 5.31sec, mine a 5.47 sec[/color] 5. drive down the return lane with a huge grin on your face and await your next run ;D

It was a great day, my brother is very protective of his toy, but I did my fair share of tyre scrubbing before crusing home at a more sedate pace

What a brilliant day out!
Don't do Supercars as a rule, but that F40 is just magnificent, I'd dig up my dead granny and fu......give my right arm for a go in one!
I did have a go in a X-flow powered Westfield once, but could barely fit my fat ass in the seat never mind rag it to death.

F40 was amazing, made a great nosie on the track ;D TBH I struggled with the Caterham, can get my backside in the seat but my feet are a little too wide for the pedals, can almost cover all of them with one shoe so ended up taking it easy squashing one foot in the corner

That formula of car is always going to be a winner, sounds like a top day out too. Nice to have a bit of variety of things to do... Tin top bays are growing on me now too. Hmmm

F40: the only Ferarri I like Yeah I found that with the pedals in a Caterham, I just couldn't find one pedal with fat meaty hams for feet.

looks awesome fun!
just out of interest, how much would a day out like that cost to the discerning motor enthusiast?
(or anyone else for that matter!)

Looks like lots of fun! Whats powering the Caterham? Its a 1.6 K series engine kicking out about 140hp, sadly the head gasket expired on my brother today and its off for repair

Looks like a fun day out. I don't like caterhams for the simple reason I don't fit The only time I have been able to get into my brother in laws was with the seat out completely and then sat on a block of wood to lift me up and give me a bit more leg room, thats why I always preferred his dutton

You need to get an SV, much wider tubwith bigger seats, ideal for the fuller framed driver/passenger....wish my brother got one as its quite snug for me
