Ha! Its in the garage, that's what! I'll take plenty more. After all, the exhaust will be next on my list of "improvements" Have the baffles taken out of the back box, a couple of my pals have done this with their Chim's - they sound the mutt's nuts when it's done Not sure where you're based, but TVR Central in Stourbridge do it for around £100 I think

I found an ignition fault on one of these accidentally once, it was idling with the bonnet up and my mate Daz turned the garage lights off.... You could clearly see the arcing across the duff leads and around the coil pack... worth a try.

What an epic sound!
I look forward to seeing your improvements. I always feel the Chim's are a tad underwheeled.

Leads are ordered, along with cap, rotor arm, and plugs. Wheels, well... that i'm still deciding on.

*bookmarked* I know next to nothing about these and other TVRs, so I'm hoping I'll learn things.

So this weekend was a good chance to get stuck into some of the stupid niggles. First on the list was the non functioning dash lights. I decided to do a bit of research first for some common faults and... well, long story short, I swtiched them on: Turns out there is a stealthy little kill switch hidden under the dash on the left hand side. Seriously. TVR give you the "distraction free" option much like the old Saabs so that you can drive at night and focus on the road better. It gets better. See how the tach is brighter than the odometer? That's no mistake. TVR feels that the most important gauge should be brightest. Another niggle that needs no repair. Naturally, the best way to make sure dash lights work is to take it a night blast... This just highlighted that the misfire is still very much there. OK, onwards to the engine. Checked the oil first. Still opaque and light brown. No idea on history so it will be changed regardless, but positive signs so far. Next up, plugs... Tight access, naturally, but all 8 plugs changed with little drama. Not so much the leads, but I'll come to that ...

Really enjoying finding out about the little details on the TVR, I'd have never thought about differently lit dials!

Aye, about that drama... Sadly, one casualty was this last spark plug suppresor. They go between the plug and lead to (I presume) angle them away from the enormous tubular manifolds. Good news though, TVR parts bin nabbed them from a Vauxhall Cavalier. Bad news, I only managed to find 2 on ebay. Turns out old Cavvy's are getting pretty rare now, judging by the lack of spares kicking around now. Nonetheless, I can replace this buggered one and have one up the sleeve, then probably order the remaining six from Vauxhall. In my defense, the suppresor had to come from here: ...a gap that is tighter than a ducks cnut. Sorted now though. I checked out the old cap and arm once off. Not the worst by any stretch, but very little shiny copper. Suggests to me there is very little contact happening, with a good chance of arcing needed here rather than at the plug. Meh, worth a change! So, all back together... Hoses that were removed have been cleaned and refitted, and a few other bits tidied up... So... did it cure the misfire? No.

Its nice to see someone working on a tvr like this, they have always been a a car to aspire to, they are so nicely styled, just one thing I would like on the chimera is closed in headlights, i then went googling headlight upgrades as I like the look of the Griffith front. I dint realise there were companies doing the mk3 light upgrades, as well as Tuscan small faired in lights and t350 front ends, but they are not cheap!
Its nice that the old yank and civi made way for this though.
Good luck with the misfire search

bad news on the misfire. I recently had a hunt for one myself and after changing the coil pack, crank sensor, checking the fuel pump, injectors... etc etc it ended up being moisture in the ECU and some dodgy connections.. whip those connectors off and have a shifties sir, sometimes it's the simple things. Hope you get it sorted!

Lovely car, best bang for buck vehicle I ever owned, mine had the torque flow conversion and a remap made a lot of difference, also found upgraded pads and discs were a must.... I'd start looking at the injectors, if they'reoriginal they'll probably need replacing any way

Got plenty of simpler things that could cause the issues. Are those 17's?

Not sure about that, as they are straight connections. I'm sure the only reason the adaptors are used is for the angle. I can just attach the HT leads direct to the plug (as i did to ensure it ran ok last weekend) but they are veeeery close to the manifold.
