Well, here is a lesson in being careful what you wish for!
After walking past the car (and it's matching on-the-road companion) numerous times on the way to the pub I popped a note through the letterbox - because I was curious to learn about the car itself and simply wanted to talk to the owner about it.
A few days later I received a call and popped round to have a natter. Turns out the car was bought a few years ago as a spares car for his main one (which he's had for almost three decades) but later on the decision was made that it was too good to break.
In the meantime the braking system and servo has been overhauled, and fuel tank cleaned out. The jets on the carb were blocked but after a clean and some fresh fuel he got the car running, albeit not on all six as the valves are stuck on one piston (job number one).
It does need a bit of welding (job number two) but nothing too gruesome. Three of the four sealed beam headlights are out (job number three) but 5 3/4 H4's are easily available, although I take it on good authority that the dynamo may have to be swapped out for an alternator to run halogens.
The water pump bearings are noisy (job number four) but a knackered unit for exhange comes with the car as does a good used exhaust manifold to replace the cracked one currently in the bay (job number five). Also in the boot is a replacement downpipe and middle box so just a rear pipe (job number six) to sort.
All I need to do now is sort out a strategy for tackling it all and transportation!

Anyways, it's a late '61 registered series III, 3.0 straight six with 3 spd overdrive 'box. There are one or two plates welded (with a couple more to do), I have a few different ideas for it but now I'm primarily concerned with getting it MOT'able and pooling it about long enough to work the niggles out of it - to be expected since it was last on the road in 1987!
