I've had a straight thru pipe put on and pump turned up but only getting a little bit of smoke on cold starts. I want a bit more when I put my boot down  |

You need more fuel , less air as far as I know . I'm just not sure why you'd want to?

May aswell just wind the pump right up in that case lol plenty of black smoke but err not sure how long it would hold together for tho |

Or just block the intake with a rag...
I'm not familiar with VP-style pumps, but what you need to do is basically adjust the max. fuel screw - in direction "max". Apart from clogging everything with soot, there's probably not much harm done by this, diesel has lubricating properties. However, as said, soot build up in the exhaust system & outlets may cause loss of power, as does the bad fuel burning. There's only so much power to be gained as there is air to burn fuel...
Just a lot of black smoke... For no reason. "If you don't know why, you'r no diesel guy" xD

I turned up the max fuel screw to the point the revs rose and I couldn't wind the idle speed down anymore, and adjusted the compensator for more fuel on my old Land Rover 300tdi pump  |

What about a small washer type pump that squirts raw diesel into the intake manifold. Could be triggered by a microswitch linked to accelerator pedal.
Personally I think it's a silly idea though and asking to be pulled over / given a ticket for VOSA check.

it's not "unburnt" fuel, but rather not "100% burnt" fuel. Under rich fueling, the hydrogen is burnt in preferance before the carbon. This gives greater power than using the same amount of air without enough fuel to cause smoke so.... no smoke, no poke  My old Rover derv |

What engine is the B3 running then? Abl?
You could make the wastegate open sooner, Lest boost so you'll have 80's style diesel..
although
Next logical step with mechanical pump, and without "losing" power, would be bigger injectors
and lose the cat if it has one
