Yesterday i spotted a Ford Ka. Nothing unusual in that you may think. This was different, it had what appeared to be a totaly standard body, in black, standard bumpers, standard everything. Except for the wheels which were about 8x13 superlights. Add to this the fact that when it shot past me it obviosly had a TURBO! With a very loud dump valve. This thing sounded very capable indeed ;D All this got me thinking something that ive thought about for a while. Are Ka's already 'classics'? They got caught up in the whole 'biggest body kit eva' thing when they first came out which spoilt things, but when you consider what you can do with them and the fact that (i beleive) they were the first full concept car to make full production in the exact form of the original concept, then they must be classics Somebody please put these thoughts out of my head please, i don't like them, I'm almost thinking of buying a Ka FFS!!!!!! (Its just the thoughts i don't like, not Ka's, i quite like them as it happens.......... HELP!!)

Theres a Red one in a similar guise too. I like them, I think they're brilliant little motors.

SWMBO had one 8-9 years ago, absolutely brilliant little cars.
I've always said that with a smidge more grunt they'd make a first-class Road Rally weapon, the handling is incredible.
The modern-day successor to the proper Mini IMHO.

Classic then? Its not like ford havnt done something like this before, y'know, looks ahead of its time, i bit 'daft' if you like, then all of a sudden views change and ten years down the line they fit right in with whats being produced today. Next thing you know people start calling it a classic. Is the Ka already there???

Ive seen that KA too. Only give away is its really discreetly mounted intercooler. It really is very quick as he gave me a real chase down pendleton road in my Rallye.
On the subject of oval sleepers, watch out for a black Puma on crappy alloys. that is also turbo'd

Stinkwheel's response = totally understandable. Bloke who thought the OHV Ka was quick = crazyfoolyes. Seriously, what do you drive daily to think they're quick? The OHC ones are quite a bit better, but my bleeding Amazon feels nippy after a Ka. IMHO the Sport Ka engine should be standard, the OHC left as a super base model for young drivers, and a hot one should have a turbo Zetec or something. I agree, the handling is incredible, but very sensitive to parking knocks and tyre types. Switched mine from Continentals (OEM) to Firestones (availabile and a lot cheaper) and the grip levels \ feedback went to pish. Don't get one with air con either - unless you want it to feel like you've lost two cylinders and like staying at 62.1 mph on the motorway. I expect in ten years or so Kas will be seen as classics of a sort, but I can't see them being valuable unless Ghia tries to sell that Saetta roadster. That one that had Kylie's cheeks on though, that might fetch a few bob.

Van Aaken do a turbo kit for the 1299cc OHV Endura that takes power from 59 bhp to 90 ish. Makes a big difference, that might be what you saw, or one with an S2 1600 turbo conversion (apparently they fit).

I recon it was the S1 1600 turbo conversion, i didnt see the intercooler as ishan mentioned, but then i didnt see much of it in detail, it was all a bit of a blur. Lets see some pics of some nicely modded Ka's, no bodykits at all! And Ade, put some wiiiiide superlights on that, i know its been done before, ive seen it, but its a very hot look.

The thought of a South London/Old Skool Ford - look KA often creeps into my mind.

mischab18a, I ment it as quick for a 1.3. It was the 06 plated one too.
Obviously it's not going to be sports car quick, but for what it was.

The south london look was pretty much what this Ka had and it worked realy well, it realy bought out exactly what they are. Cool.
Had another nasty thought last week. Wide wheel vitaras. Not many about now but when you do notice one its like ''WOW look, a wide wheel vitara!!!!''
Its so, so wrong........
Back to Ka's now please

i still cant bring myself to like it. i reckon a REALLY widearch one would rock but it needs done first. no offence to you (or your daughter) ade but when i see the back of that KA it looks like a soggy wet , one that wasnt exactly too pert to begin with... front of them is nigh impossible to look good too..
