They're quite a flat floor in these for the most part but it looks like there's a lot of overhang at the seat end, is this going to be supported so it doesn't flex? I quite like the raw play finish of it too, blends nicely with the side panels that you'd made but makes the wheel arch covers look the wrong colour. You could do with some carpet for the arches the same colour as the waves to blend it all together and I bet that's not easy to sort out.
Anyway, for fear of coming across as critical of what is still one of the very few PT Cruisers I like, rest assured all of this is excellent, I'm just putting some thoughts out there on what I can see and what you've probably already seen and thought about and have solutions for yourself.

Re-read the thread and wanted to offer a few suggestions. Have you considered either losing the rear screen altogether or fitting a smaller sized window? The other idea would be to ditch the rear lights and integrate your brake/tail/turn signals into the bumper lights, or fit a 50s style fender light? Sorta like the picture below

vulgalour feedback is always welcome. There is an overhang behind the front seats, currently the boards rest on the centre console but I've got some supports intended for that end as well and probably some access portals as well - it'd be a shame to loose that storage space but I want a neat stealth solution. I don't like the wheel arches poking through either. I've tried vinyl over them but can't get the fit quite right but I've another idea I'm working on...mums the word. quackshot yes the rear door window would be fantastic smaller! Love the idea. Reversing out of my driveway would be a nightmare tho haha As for the rear tailights - again another great idea. If I do it I don't want plastic insert kinds - a proper steel fender with suitable lights would be the only solution for me. Thanks for the interest & input. I'm open to ideas so please chuck them my way,

Could you chop off the overhang and refit it with a hinge to become the lid of two storage lockers? You can get flush-fit ring pull handles so there's no sticky-outy bits to spoil the flat floor too.

A set of Mk 1 mini tail lights frenched into the rear wheel arches would look neat, rear window from the same would look good too.

quackshot - never thought of using beetle fenders as donor bits! I suppose it should be obvious... Could you chop off the overhang and refit it with a hinge to become the lid of two storage lockers? You can get flush-fit ring pull handles so there's no sticky-outy bits to spoil the flat floor too. Flush fit all the way - this bed needs to be nice and smooth. Marine cabinets & lockers have some nice chrome fittings - I just found some on the bay of plenty that'll work nicely. herusix - frenched tail lights - I hadn't thought of that - it could be freaking awesome if done right!

I bet you can get a plastic box to fit in the foot well. Drop one into the space behind each seat, a hinge on the underside of your locker lids with the flush-fit handles and BOOM! tidy sneaky storage that you can actually take out of the car. I bet you could even get a really small beverage cooling box that would fit!

delux I considered frenched lights but thought rather than going for the pre custom look, it would be better to try and age it. Also I've not had any coffee and have already been at work for 3 hours so this may not make sense.

That looks awesome! I love PTs, had one myself several years ago now. I think I saw a panelvan concept picture online around then(my memory is rubbish) and liked it at the time, but it's so cool to see one being done, I especially love the signwriting and the wheels, love them!
Cheers, Andrew

Thanks Andrew! It's been a lonely winter for Preston Tucker my Panelvan while I've been working on The Talbot Beach Hut project but now that's gone over to a mates workshop I could get my hibernating PT out from under the covers. I decided not to use the PT this past winter while I de-salted the underside with a solution from rust.co.uk and applied liberal coats of Tetroseal underbody sealant for my own peace of mind. Besides I have the Disco for long trips & hard graft - so Preston can stay warm and dry. Took Preston for a good run around including a blast on the motorway in the sunshine with music pumping. I can't wait to get the wood floor finished off now that's it warmer & easier to get poly seal to dry... This is my happy car for sure!

Saw this spare tyre holder today and thought of this thread. Owner got a bit funny with me, wanting to know why I was taking pictures of his car...

Well what I didn't mention was, the car is part of a funeral group - outside a funeral parlor... I told him I liked his car and in my strongest English accent said 'I hadn't seen anything that cool before.' Showed him the photo and drove away!
