but now fetch silly money.
Mk1 Escort 2 Door Saloons
2 Door Sierras.
I'd guess that 2 Door Mk 1 Cortina's would be up there too.
All used be readily available even just a couple of years ago for the price of a kebab and a pint but now seem to go for ridiculous cash.
What others can we come up with?

the ultimate pov-spec car thats now worth more than any other model has to be the porsche 356 speedster. it was the curse word base model with a tent for a roof, but is now more desirable than the coupes......

Here in NZ, for some reason that is totally beyond me Triumph Heralds that have had their roofs removed and a bad tent put in place. They are then sold to unknowing public as convertibles and most likely with out a modified car certificate. Sorry pet rant!

1930's Austin Seven - cheep transport when new, could be bought for a bottle of wine when as a banger transport in the 1950's...
...Today £3k upwards to £12k+ for a brooklands or Ulster version.
Model T Ford, again not wanted in as second hand transport in 1930's when hp tax was introduced...
...Today 10grand+
WW2 Willys Jeep- in the 50's and 60's secondhand cheap farm/garage workhorse... ...today every Military vehicle fan wants one; 8k+ was being paid in 2004 for them.

but now fetch silly money. 2 Door Sierras. I'm still not sure this is true, I hope so, but not convinced, propper 'cosworth' shells seem to do ok, I personally don't know the difference though, extra bracing or just a blingin VIN tag? Jonny, MWF? Anything I find now thats RWD, old (specially tax free), not massive and less than 3 doors, I expect it to be £?,000's and if not I cannot wonder why, for an example I can include Fair condition MR2's, Chevettes, rovers, multidoored sierras etc of course eventually when enough are stripped/bangered/junked this will change... --- Did we have AE86 and Starlet?

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Jonny, MWF? AFAIK - not a Cosworth expert - the actual shell is identical, just the suspension's mildly different.... A couple of years ago 3-door Sierras were making good money but there seem to be a lot of cheap (sub-£400) examples about now, there were about six on Ebay at the same time recently (maybe due to a free-listing day?) If anyone wants one, maybe now's the time! Anyway, I would like, but can not afford, a basic 1.6 mk3 Cortina. Thanks a bunch, Sam Tyler. Hopefully the Life On Mars sequel will be in 1983, sending the value of Sierras rocketing!

Mk3 Cortina for sure. The base 2 door 1.3 was cheap as chips when new, and even though the early part of the "classic" period fo the MK3 people stayed away from them a bit preffering a 2000E or a GXL or GT, but now any 2 door is worth sensible money.
When did Model T's get so dear? I remember seeing them in the Automobile for £4K - £6K kind of money only about a year ago.

Skoda Rapids/Estelles - some bargains can still be had, but they're worth pretty much the same as they would've been 10 years ago.
5k car in 1989, still worth 500-700 quid, can't argue!

Mini. You might still be able to grab one cheap but I've seen them get pricey. Porsche 912? Seems to be "acceptable" to the VW aircooled purists and thus scene-taxed.

There seems to be a bit of back and forth with this, some say they are identical, others argue not. I'm pretty sure the motorsport shells and RS500 shells were strengthened and had no sunroofs, might be wrong though. As for the value of 3dr Sierras, they do seem to be picking up, majro next summer we'll see a leap in prices. I wonder if the BBC want a black 4i for the LOM sequel LOL

2cv's seem to be exorbitantly priced these days, given that when new they battled it out with Skoda 105L's, Ladas & Polski Fiats for the the award of britain's cheapest car. Everything under a G seems to be so kippered they are pointless.

I'd say Cortinas in general , but particularly 4dr Mk1s and Mk3's in both 2dr and 4dr form, even before the Life on Mars effect. I remember talking to a bloke on the Mk3 owners club stand in 2002 saying that the only post 73 Mk3 that was worth anything more than a grand was a 2000E. Also a really nice Cortina Mk1 4dr is getting close to £3K, whereas 3-4 years ago you could get something nice for £1500. One good side effect in that people are now starting to look at Vauxhalls and Rootes cars as alternatives to Fords, and so things like Chevettes, Avengers and FE Victors are getting looked after/saved instead of scrapped. Also it's the Fords are getting kept and looked after, which is good when you consider that a Mk1 cortina is at least 40 years old now. At least there will be some around in years to come.
