Just a few for tonight, lots more to come tomorrow. A chunk of what I've seen recently has been for sale, anything here take your fancy? I've got numbers if so. SA-built Fairlane, a '71 model (based on '69 US model?) bought over in '74 or so. £3500 at a garage near Diss. Chap owns 10 or so old American cars, had this one for 20 years apparently - I've seen it numerous times when driving past but it's now for sale. I like it. Proper RHD, and speedo is in km/h. 1800ES not far from the Fairlane, £2700 with T&T. Running on carb's, comes with original injection stuff. Minor with T&T in Attleborough. Beetle in Ipswich. Pickup very near my place. £1600 or so, is that right? Onto other stuff, initially with things for VW people as that's mostly what I see right now. Golf at Sainsburys #1. Slightly overdone for my tastes. Had leather interior! Golf at Sainsburys #2. GTi still running its 8v motor, not so tidy as blue 5dr but my choice. While taking this picture a local Polo coupe in red oxide on whitewalls with a roofrack drove past, still evading my camera that one. They like Golfs at this place too, a roadworthy Mk1 GTi also on the drive sometimes. Caddy on E30 alloys. But this is what I really like to find. This had presence! Finally, something that will definitely be in my autoshite spot thread. Not sure if the fluid trails came from this.....

1800ES not far from the Fairlane, £2700 with T&T. Running on carb's, comes with original injection stuff. I really like these! The estate roofline works really well with the original styling (deeply cool tailgate) and it's a great colour! Looks in nice condition and a good price too. Sadly they can rot like a fisherman's bucket, and are expansive to sort out since unless a panel opens, it doesn't unbolt

nice motor - but their petrol is a bit expensive As he owns the place let's hope he gets a discount eh? Withut wishing to start a discussion about petrol prices up and down the country, fuel isn't cheap outside of the towns round here.

A few more, going back to the time of the spotting competition which I didn't enter....... Gilbern has been at the garage I use for ages now, very long-term project. Tidy late 480. IIRC it was for sale at a local Volvo specialists for £600 some time ago. Found on a walk out with the family. As was this. I think it's possibly just me, but seeing stuff like this chugging about is pleasing. Some of my autoshite posts now. Stellar's got my real-life initials on it. I really should have made enquiries about this one. Carlton Carrera, Jag-based I think. Acquired a rough 100A estate from this chap a few years ago. It was horrible. All above at some old farmyard out in the middle of nowhere, I must find out more. Sinking Scorpio. UtterPiffle's roof in the background! Looked tidy. VW's definitely the most numerous modified old car round these parts, it seems to me anyway. I like these. In Ipswich now. Jumbo LHD Toyota camper. Cute 10" slotmags. Worth posting again. Very bright! Still in Ipswich...... Sniper's? Had SD1's here for years.

Belongs to my boss's father. Got a small capacity straight-six It's a '34 / '35 Riley 12/6 (or possibly 14/6) Mentone, which is essentially a bigger engined version of the famous '9' Monaco (dad has a wrecked '33). Thsi one is a lovely colour too - I want!!!!! BTW, the ERA engine was derived from the engine that is in these ;D, so sadly many saloons like this end up being raped for the chassis & running gear, which is then used to build racing cars. It's a double underhead cam, with very short pushrods & a crossflow hemi head. It would have been a very potent machine in it's day and even now, would perform very well for a car of its age, and disgracing many '50s cars with similar sized engines.

Datsun 240Z based I think. The ZA spec Fairlane is cool, looks very similar to the US model ('66 or '67) but I'll bet theres a plenty of spec differences to stop too much stuff swapping over! That would suit me to the ground as a daily driver, small block, RHD, sensible size.... But the price kills it for me.

AK - I did some Googling when I found that Carlton Carrera, apparently they were either Jaguar or Cortina-based – 5-stud wheels suggested the former here. I’m not aware of many Z-based kits, most are just glorified sets of panels to turn them into a Ferrari replica or suchlike. IMO this one is one of the better-looking kits, just details like random rear lights (Manta here?) that don’t quite work.
PaulH – As mentioned on autoshite the Riley has just had its engine taken out to about 1750cc. Despite the age of both car and driver it gets driven enthusiastically.
JS – Sniper is lucky with the size of his driveway in that area of town, otherwise it wasn’t exactly car-friendly (though that’s good for me, ‘cos it forces the interesting stuff out onto the street where it’s easier to find).

As mentioned on autoshite the Riley has just had its engine taken out to about 1750cc. Despite the age of both car and driver it gets driven enthusiastically. Unfortunately haven't been on AS for a while as haven't had time. Glad to hear that the Riley gets used properly though ;D ;D Given the engine tweaks, I'm assuming he's also changed the diff ratio to something more sensible, in which case the performance & motorway cruising speed* are going to embarrass many much younger cars of th same engine size ;D * The smaller engined 9hp (1100cc) will cruise happily at 55mph with the standard gearing (tops out at 65 / 70- not bad for a 75 year old) so that one should be more than happy on fast A roads or the motorway

Love the 'Horseshoes' pub advertsing vehicles - a Lada and a shagged out W123.
I can just imagine the landlord at the cash and carry in the Lada stocking up on pork scratchings!

And why didn't you knock on the door and pop in for a cuppa? Sorry! Will do next time - at the time I wasn't really sure they were your's, it was only when I saw a pic of your other car in the same spot I sussed. Like I say, you're lucky with the driveway there - did you buy another house and knock it down?......

Ha Ha! no... Interesting bit of history (if you like that sort of thing) is that the street was built after the railway was in the 1860s, plots were then sold off for housing, roughly 80foot at a time. Most had 4 terraces built, but ours had a pair of semis, leaving a 25foot wide driveway either side. ;D Strangely thats what made me buy the house!!! Mike.
