Autocar recently broke the news about Transport for London's plans to ban all pre 2005 cars from the city centre by 2020. Full article here: www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/motoring/london-set-ban-older-private-petrol-and-diesel-carsThey even admit that only a very small percentage of air pollution is from cars, and the percentage must be minuscule when it comes to older cars due to the far lesser numbers in use, yet still they want to rid the streets of pretty much every interesting car ever made. Facebook group in opposition to the new legislation: www.facebook.com/nocarbansAnd a random pic of a cool old car in London which could soon be a thing of the past!

how funny would it be (if it happens) to arrange a massive convoy of retros (maybe with obscured number plates to avoid APNR cams/fines) to drive through London! get into a bit of curse word, but be damn awesome!!
in seriousness though, glad i don't live near London, though how long til other cities start to copy them ¬¬

What a ruddy joke...!!! These kind of plans really are stupid and should not even be considered... It is one thing to ban proper classic cars but putting a ban on pre-2005 cars will alienate people who maybe cannot afford a newer car!!! This kind of thing just makes me sick to the soles of my feet...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow my modern daily is a 2005 car and I drive it in central London on a weekly basis... this is insane. I shall drop a note to TfL to inform them of my opinion on the matter

Total tossers, it's all cobblers anyway, cows farting cause more Co2 than all the cars put together. TBH I hate London & those that choose to live there can have it, but I do agree the principal of it is all wrong & will in time probably spill out into other cities.

Surely the production of a new car must be more damaging to the environment, what with the consumption of raw materials, including rare metals in things like cats, emissions from the factories and the amount of energy used.

This is curse word. Autocar sensationalism. The low emission zone will be discussed soon, and the article says this could be in the congestion charging zone only. Stop worrying.

Even though true, that will never come into account though as car production protects jobs.

Not to mention the horrible batteries in electric and hybrid cars. You should see the underground car park at the houses of parliament, full of old Rollers, Bentleys, Bristols and Jags.

W.T.F with the congestion zone and L.E.Z in place this is a step to far. I've had to sell my T4 because of the low emission zone already this really is a load of curse word.

Well they wouldn't want the lower classes driving around the city in their clapped out, high polluting, smog belching 2004 ford focuses, making the place look all untidy would they?

Perhaps it's best to hold back on the hysteria for a while. Think through the practicalities of making the majority of London motorists sell their cars and how they'd need to be compensated...

No matter how localised the area will be it's still a very worrying precedent to set. Even if you never want to go near London motorists nationwide should be protesting against such blatantly unnecessary measures limiting our freedom to use whatever car we choose!
And if the worst case scenario does happen, I'll be straight on to buying a supercharged 2005 Range Rover and heading to London!

Wouldn't be fair to charge us the same as everyone else when we can't use all the roads!

Another angle of the ban would affect places like the Ace cafe as most of the ''events'' they have are for older vehicles so there takings i would imagine would fall quite abit .......Still when the government/councils run out of easy targets to ban etc they might actually start sorting out the real issues of the country and not car owners ....

Perhaps they need to reduce traffic, so that Boris can get his new water cannons deployed quickly, in case of civil unrest Ttfn Glenn

There are a lot of incredibly wealthy people how keep old cars in London. Not to mention all the events and dealers in the area. There are enough vested interests to make sure it wouldn't happen.
