So then... building a lowrider?? WHere do you start? Whats best Fast-air or hydraulics? Which is more cost effective? What are the costs? Whats the best car to choose? Or is it pretty much use what you like? Its something I've always really wanted to do. I've got the starlet now and I'm gunna keep that for at least a year but after that I was thinking about going for a completely different style of car. Instead of blatting around in a small hot hatch I was thinking of cruising in a big barge (Probably mk3 Granada) scraping the floor. So all those in the Know please enlighten me!! Was also thinking of perhaps a mini truck!

Ive got bags on my Merc. Its reasonably fast ,but you cant 3 wheel with air ,without special rams. I reckon it rides better than springs if done properly .,and is much more driveable on a day to day basis ,but Ive done lots of development .the systems generally run on the existing battery ,and are dependent on tank fill times etc ..Hydro's are much more abrupt in operation ,but you can do more 'tricks',They run on a boot full of batteries ,which are generally charged externally. If you only want park and dump ,go with air! Both systems can be tweaked to work nicely ,but it takes time ! It also depends on the vehicle you choose to do it to .Have a look at my website for info ..rodschopshop.co.uk...its not the definitive answer by any means ,but it shows you whats involved, generally, and how I did it.I learnt as I went along!

Thanks for the reply. What I'm after is something that rides really low and can be dumped ono the chassis when its parked. Saying that the thought of "tricks" does appeal to me but then again the battery thing puts me off a little bit.

And a hydraulic system will probably start leaking at some point with the abuse it gets from doing tricks, personally i`d rather have a air leak than a hydraulic fluid leak ;D

LOL!! How dare you make such assumptions!! (SHHHHHH!!!)
Seriously though. I had considered a bagged Perodua but I fancy a stripped out perodua and a big granada on Bag's scrapping the floor. Probably pipe dreams really!

I dunno anything at all about airbags or hydraulics, but a granny would go really low, just replace the rears springs with bags, and if its possible to get dougnut shaped bags you could modify the front strut with a bag round the top and bobs your uncle, low rider, dark coulour with nice chrome trim (and the arch extensions) and some cgromey wheels and its done, get a 24valve one and you have all the toys and luxuries along with 145mph top speed. change the box for a manual and the diff ratio and you'll even average 30mpg on a run

yeah irs and if you take the springs and bump stops out and let it off the jack it will drop onto the floor, the front x member will hit the road and so will the diff. they aint high anyway, heres my manual 24v Manual conversion 200bhp 200lb/ft LSD electric windows/sunroof cntral locking cruise control leather aircon heated front screen/mirrors/ front seats fuel computer cd changer electrically adjustable front/rear seats ABS mahoosive vented discs front and rear 15" rims etc etc £600 and it was only that dear cos the manual box is worth 300 quid, these cars are peanuts to buy and go really well. mines giving up its engine into my cortina. i would say the frog eye sorp is as good except the timing cghains are weaker on the the later BOB 24v and make sure you get a proper ignition key as they come with PATS and its a curse word if its knackered, also they don't have LSD as standard as they have traction control instead. For the money the 24v cossie costs, i dunno why anyone would buy a less powerfull one, its even better on fuel than the 150bhp 2.9!! :S

My scorp sits on the chassis on full drop on bags. Rears are bellows in place of the coils and fronts are universal struts engineered to fit. Don't waste your time with slip-on single bellows for the front, they are a pain to get to seal and don't offer much travel. I can pull a rolling 3 wheel with my car, and I'm working on getting it to stand 3. Don't waste your time fitting air cylinders (cans) either, they ride like wibblepoo, you may as well be riding on bump stops. Good air bags will have internal bump stops. Avoid manufacturers such as AIM, chassistech airbaggit.com, cos they are all the same and all bad. In addition to teh 12v compressors that Rod spoke of, you can also fit Engine Driven Compressors (EDC's), I have one on mine and its awesome. Flows up to 9cfm, compared to 12v which flow around 1cfm. Any more quiestions, fire away.

In terms of pumps would something like a rangey air suspension pump work? Just pondering the idea of ghetto air-bags.
