Having had a fair few relationships in my years and being currently single, I have never met someone that shares my urges in old cars and car shows. The best I've had is they come along but always look bored.
So I ask you, does your other half get involved or just moan about it?

My other half is a serious petrol head. She grew up hanging around at her dad's garage. She started riding mini motorbikes, but then ended up driving old beetles and v8 buggies round the yard when she was 12 years old. She drives a 90s BMW compact which is not really retro, but after coming to loads of ford shows with me she bought herself a mint mk3 escort for a while. After a few pillion rides on my gsxr she said pillion wasn't for her and got her full unlimited bike licence. I guess I am lucky, I never ever get moaned at for messing with cars and bikes. She's a seriously good driver too.

My wife and I have completely different interests. She likes hot beach holiday whereas I prefer cooler country areas - we haven't been away together for 19 years !. I am a Tea total vegi whereas she "likes a drink" and will eat, or at least try, most meat type things - snails, frogs legs etc included. I'm a petrol head but wife doesn't care what she drives as long as it's relatively decent and reliable. She didn't want children so it was my decision that we have two. We both love animal though. So as you can see in theory we at totally unsuited to each other yet have been together for 40 years and are both early retired to it's not as if we are apart much either. BTW we were friends before we started going out. Probably played together as kids and met in school 6th form. I think NOT having all interests shared can help a relationship with either party developing their own.

God, god no...
When we first starting courting ;p she refused point blank to go in my Mazda 1300 which was the best car i've ever owned so as I quite liked her I sold it, never again will I listen to her.
Now i'm only 'allowed' little time to work on my current car, she still refuses to get in, but hey, thats suits me fine, she can drive the dull daily for me

It might explain a lot about my relationship, that in almost 9 years together, probably the most excited and giddy I have seen her, was when I told her I had got us tickets to see monster jam.

The previous Ms_Justanotherhigh's have never had any interest in cars, technical ability or even a license. The current one has no interest but isn't a pain about it either which suits me. One day, you never know.
When I was running the red Allego, the last ex said she'd seen another red Allegro on the other side of town looking unloved on someones driveway, and did I want to go around and see if it was for sale. Somewhat impressed, I drove over that end for a look and discovered it was a Rover P6 3500s. On broaching that subject, she told me 'well, it was red and old!'

My girlfriend see's cars just as fashion accessories really, her criteria for buying her own car was that it's purple….. Fortunately she likes the aesthetics of old cars more than new cars She's liked my rx7 and has a normal love hate relationship with the Lancia She doesn't give me a hard time about spending time working on the car, as she knows how much it means to me, equally she's never going to want to come out and get her hands dirty in the garage and expects a certain about of leniency on my part when it comes to her wanting to buy clothes/shoes!

The wife's father was a motor trader so she has always had different types of cars around, she's into retro clothing and likes 50s and '60s cars, when it comes down to it though she would rather go clothes shopping than to an auto jumble.

Despite repeated attempts my wife will hands down NOT own a classic. She appreciates my cars but enjoys the total lack of driving experience a modern car brings AKA no noise, light steering, driver aids and reliability! On the other hand she pretends to listen to me talking about cars, never complains about me working on cars or leaving oily hand prints on doors etc. Wouldn't change her for the world.

I nearly died laughing. Mrs W has a new car. Once, I sold my beloved slammed Volvo 240 estate so she could buy a new Zafira that she then hated for 6 years. I rode a bicycle to work for that.
However, she doesn't object if I spend my own money restoring the current project provided I build her a conservatory first!

Not really but then I am quite car obsessed, she does understand though & nearly bought me a VW Caddy pickup project for my 30th but it sold before she could get it, so got me a private plate. Other car related present's have been a Lambo experience & tickets to Top Gear Live - so I'm not going to complain She appreciates the fact I fix the car's when they break though, that includes her side of the family cars as well lol.

No, it took her a month to even get in the car without coaxing. She hates that it's really loud, that people stop and talk to me about it, stare at it and take pictures of it. Also doesn't like it taking up my time. But, she wants either a Landy, a Beetle or a Mini... Mental.

Not in anyway shape or form. She knows that whatever I want to do I`ll do it as I wouldn't ever let anyone rule my life so she tolerates it. She`s got no interest in it though and thinks its all a waste of time and money, even though I don't spend nearly as much as most peoples monthly payment on whatever curse word Korean tin box they`ve got. As long as her car doesn't look out of place in the work car park she`s happy where as I'm only happy when mine looks completely out of place. She doesn't mind going to the Pod as she likes the racing and will go to car shows but usually walks around with a face of thunder. If I had my time again id 100% only get with another petrol head that `got it`.
