So today I was putting a new top mount on the front of the audi but came up against a bit of a problem: I had a small nut to to get on a bolt which was facing upwards, not a problem untill I relised that the ac piping run over it and the ecu main loon runs beside it. Tight is a understatment. After I few trys getting the nut on I came up with this idea which work a treat: I put the nut in the thumb on blue rubber glove then pushed the nut in the glove into the scocket, carfully cut the excess glove off. This kept the nut in the scocket so I could slide the scocket down wards on to the bolt Everyone must have a tick or two so why not share

I've superglued nuts to my fingertip cos I can't find any other way to do it, surprisingly enough though I've never superglued my own nuts to my fingers.

Thick grease in a socket or silicone sealer does a similar trick

A jack under a balljoint will stop it spinning so you tighten it up. Oven cleaner is a good engine cleaner!¬

Oven clearing is also good for removing anodizing but not a caustic soda

After a 'bread basket' failure a dish washer tablet in the cooling system, cleans it a treat

A hairdrier down a rubber hose on the cooling system will thaw out a car using water instead of coolant on a frozen winter morning in a minutes.

If you have a head gasket failure so oil sludge blocks engine waterways and rad then cheap, thin, bleach cleans it out (approved method by Vauxhall).

don't use car shampoo to wash your dishes up if you run out of washing up liquid, it doesnt work properly
if you have a black and decker powerfile, you can get cheap belts but cutting down 457 x 76mm belts for belt sanders down, you just need to cut 1 inch over the belt join with a stanley knife, to the desired width and then just rip the belt from the cut along its length....and there you have it, cheaper powerfile belts.
using rain repellant (like rainx) on the inside and outside of windows on older cars reduces the time they take to clear in a morning if misted up. I use a squeegee to clear the water off the surface, but the still looks "milky" for a bit

Smear of grease on an old style copper head gasket helps it seal up properly.

you can use string through the holes to align an automatic classic mini downpipe to manifold connection from underneath and behind the engine... if you need to remove a turbo from an S-Chassis nissan, always buy flexible turbo oil pipes as getting the rigid ones back in is a proper pain in the ![](http://www.wired.com/images_blogs/underwire/2009/11/fox_60.jpg) , especially on the S14, on the same job, dump the copper gaskets that have a band between the 2 of them and get a couple of sump plug copper gaskets and file the middles out a bit to replace them with.

Super glue and bluetak are allways in my yard for holding nuts in sockets and on fingers ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) Sterident tablets are another handy thing to keep in a drawer and i use a lot of bleach to kill the growths you get in washer bottles. ATF is a great release agent, i allways keep some in a squirty oil can for suspension bolts, to help it penitrate rust i add acetone ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) a drop of ATF over the threads of say, a strut top thread really helps the nut come off easy (stops the nylock sticking all the way off).
