I like these pre facelift W124s and the 300D engine sounds a good swap. Is the registration 3AYG a family one, or did it come with the car? It must be worth quite a bit of money with such a low number. David As my brother said it's been in the family for years, I can finally make a start on the diesel transplant over Xmas just got the keys to a unit!

I thought it might be, it is such a good plate. It's a lovely thing to have with all that family history!

I was pretty chuffed with myself after that, I don't think it's too bad. After a lick of paint the engine bay is now nice and shiny That's it for the minute, plan is to get the donor down to my unit this week and make a start on the transplant, any advice to make life a little easier would be appreciated! I keep biting off more than I can chew in all honesty but it's getting done and I'm learning in the process. no finer way of learning that getting it done!

Hey bid l love this thread its has such a similar vibe to mine, same year car, a beginer in welding and fabrication and no bloody room to do it all haha lm slightly jealous of your nice big unit over my very small single garage.. What lve found with welding is take your time and practice 1 day mine are awesome the next they look curse word haha but as long as they are solid its ok. I will be watching this with eagerness

Random question alert - are there any vacuum pipes coming from the gearbox and if so, where do they attach on the engine/inlet etc? Mine appears to be AWOL!
Whereabouts are you in the country?

That looks absolutely brilliant! What size are those AMG wheels? My 190 has little 15 inch AMG reps and I really fancy some bigger ones.

In all honesty I cannot remember I don't think there was, a vacuum pipe went from the gearbox into the bulkhead behind the glove box but can't remember on on engine I'll have a look tonight for you I'm in Rotherham South Yorkshire

Thanks a lot the wheels are 17's I used to have a 190, I tried these wheels on it and they were huge! I wouldn't recommend anything bigger than 16's unless it's a cosworth

Might have to find some 16s then. You should bring this to the meet at Meadow Farm, first Monday of each month. Could get some pics with mine, would look good.

Great build, are you keeping it Smoke Silver? Nope I'm looking for a nice Metallic brown colour, although I like smoke silver I just want it to stand out. I was thinking some sort of modern merc brown think it will go perfect with the cream trim
