To me, these look like ridiculous caricatures. As you point out, most of them are nothing special underneath. I'd rather have the race car, or even just a standard 993.

Different people want different things from cars. Performance doesn't make either of these cars more or less valid than the other.

But it does make it an extremely expensive body kit...

Personally I'd like a bit of go with my show .. so I'll buy both of the above and throw one through the other ... jobs a goodun.
The Yellow one still looks pretty badass without the kit... maybe some different wheels (if you can find some suitably light awesome looking ones).

I'd buy this with 510bhp and buy a matching speedboat called 'Suck My Wave' with the rest of the money

This led me to looking at 911's on pistonheads. Can't believe the price you can get a 996 for now! What are they like? Seems like a lot of car for the money, achievable now!

Anything sub £10k is to be avoided, most will be prefacelift 3.4's anyway. You need to pay around £13-14k for a good 996. That R.W car looks amazing, but must be dog slow with all that weight.

Ah 8.5-10k is my kinda area. I like the prefacelift look and they seem quick enough. Any major problems?

Not wanting to sound like a massive penis but I had a 996 gt3rs, the best car I have ever owned by miles. If you have the cash, buy one now as they have been stable at the £60k mark now for a few years. As the last 'Zero Assists' gt3 they are going to start to appreciate soon as the ' purists' choice of kettle.
As for the Welt... Stick a monster snail on it and make it into a 200mph club car, otherwise take it all off and enjoy a proper classic.
Ok, sorry for the hijack.
Reverting to pauper mode.

PPC mag did a buying feature a while ago - worth having a look before you part with the readies. A dreaded nikasil problems. From what I've read online they normally show problems before 50k so a higher mileage one can often be a safer bet. I'll do some more research and dig that ppc article out. The thought of having a relatively modern Porsche for less than a new 1.2 Corsa is quite appealing.
