I hope the banger community do the right thing and start to think about introducing some way of checking cars , don't know how they could but i thinbk they need to show that there willing to do something and acknowledge what could be more widespread - I'm not banger boy bashing here though. I guess the cars get pinched because ,1. there are always scumbags , 2. the point that people who have been doing this for years when cars were free-£50 , now don't want or can afford to pay up to a few hundred for cars . I hope the bloke falls down some stairs , walks into a door ....

this is an absolute load of curse word! not from your point of view but from the so called authorities. you did all the work! if as you say it was towed then it must be fairly easy to get some sort of view on camera, its not as if it was a two a penny modern like a focus or fiat 500. should be a doddle for it to be picked out. even getting some sort of detail of the tow vehicle. and the pure pubic hair of a person who ended up with it is a whole other stream of bum dribble. even if he didn't originally steal it then he would have known it was stolen, NO excuses. even my 4 year old son knows the difference between a scrapper fit only for the track and a decent motor. and what about the police,.........................................(sorry had to stop and swear a bit then) surely they should now be charging him with receiving/handling stolen goods, damn sure know they tried to get me for it when I bought a part from ebay that turned out to have been stolen from a garage FOUR years before I purchased it. (I genuinely didn't know it was stolen and offered to return it to the original owner). and all yours happened within a few days so the trail couldn't be hotter. also the farmer who rents the land should be in some sort of bother for having stolen goods on his land, if the thieving piece of dog mess had no where to practice his "hobby"......................................... (sorry more swearing) then he might just stop. sorry to have a rant but its just pitiful that the victim of a crime, no matter what it is has to do all the legwork and has it made difficult by the people we trust and pay taxes for who are supposed to be there for our benefit.

There was something old and gold under a tarp. Possibly a granny/cortina or a yank but I couldn't tell, not too hot on my fords and could only see the rear. I would have and should have taken more pics but the coppers weren't too keen and as they arrived at 6 it got pretty dark pretty quick. I did get one other, had to brighten it in iphoto... The only one that I have on my records which matches that description is a gold 1984 Mk2 Granada Ghia X reg B35UGS stolen from Tilehurst, Reading, Berkshire overnight 15th October 2010. The car is an automatic & the chassis number is WFOFXXGAGFEK88228 Long shot as it's been 3 years?

ALL cars that are raced should be made to have their chassis plates still in place & checked off against the DVLA & stolen car database during scruitineering & noted down/posted up on a raced car database. Any stolen cars will be flagged up, anyone using false numbers will be flagged up as they will either not exist or exist on a different car & anyone using plates more than once will be flagged up. Offenders will be highlighted & face either criminal prosecution &/or lifelong bans. Never been a racer but enjoy watching banger racing so have no idea what ID gets checked during scruitineering?

Unfortunately It also happened to a mate of mine who had a very late 1500 Corsair on a 'D' plate with all added extras from the original Ford dealer............ My mate lived very near Wimbledon Stadium, it was found wrecked IN the stadium, how they recognised it was by the added side repeater indicator lights high up on the B post, He was gutted because it was an original unwelded rot free example.

Thanks to everyone for their replies. Yeah, I'm definitely getting it going again. It's just that morning I had finally given up on finding it and then when I found it in that state I didn't feel I could bear piecing it back. But since all your messages on here and the volvo forum with amazing offers of parts, labour and even a set of wheels I agree, it's gotta be done. Like has been said it seems mostly cosmetic but still don't know till I get her back. Thanks so much! I was quite overwhelmed when I refreshed the page this morning. Was away yesterday. Still waiting for the pound to let me know if its available, left a couple of messages but nowt. The ovalbagerchat forum has really lit up too, the team are being named and shamed with people calling for life bans for those involved. The ending could almost end up better than the beginning at this rate!!!
One thing I have to mention, when I had a peek into the car at the yard I wanted to know if it had been wired but no....there was a key in the ignition. Although I'm having trouble finding my spare right now (must have put it in a REALLY safe place???) it wasn't it. I know some of these older cars can have pretty similar keys or maybe its been cut to a skeleton pattern? I'll know if the coppers leave it in the car when it returns. Immobilisers at the ready... I also think they may have tried before as I remember hearing a car trying to turn over (i pulled the ignition coil each night) but when I went to the window and then outside there was nothing and the car was still locked. Now makes more sense with a key involved.
As for the other cars there I really hope the coppers had a good look. There was a bunch of caravans next to that yard too, mostly covered with tarps again....lets pray the rozzers weren't about to finish their shift!
Thanks again for all your messages and offers, what stars, and I'll let you know more as I find out or when the car returns.
Cheers!
Regards
Biscuit
And seth, didn't spot it was you who made the first comment! Cheers!

all very interesting. can you do a C+P of the bangerchat postings, i want to know who it is, i think i may have unwittingly had dealing with them in the past. tbh the fact the ovalbangerchat is a closed forum doesnt make it look like there is nothing to hide going on in there does it......

^ I do like the way you found it. It makes me think from now on any motor going missing will be google eathed for any 'sites' in a given radius and go looking.

I hope there are some serious repercussions. Legal repercussions, that is. That and the racer/s in question receiving a lifetime ban from banger racing.

OBC were coming up with good info and quoting previous posts that mentioned members of the team being banned for abuse etc but now the thread has been locked and any posts containing names have been deleted. I don't think it's a problem that it's a closed forum as it's very easy to register but it's not good it's now locked...

Excellent investigative skills, full-on "Chinatown" style, I was gripped! If criminals were to expect a stolen car to be investigated so thoroughly, it might put them off in the first place. I hope these types are starting to feel the effects of the "heat" the internet can generate, in recent years there's been a few success stories with regards to stolen vehicles which couldn't have easily happened otherwise.
Considering the numberplate was handily left inside the car, hopefully all "I didn't know it was stolen" explanations are as null and void as whatever excuses may exist for concealing it under a tarp. Have to really wonder about the mindset of somebody who takes the plate off a stolen car and then casually tosses it inside said stolen car. Really hope the fingerprints off said plate are what secures their fate.
On another note, it's encouraging to hear that the banger lot are asking for calling for lifetime bans and what-not, will be interested to see if it actually results in some action in the end though as past experiences seem to show it going quiet after a while and it ends up being unclear whether anything was actually done. For example, a cursory glance at Google shows the guy who raced that stolen 180B in 2006 (yeah, not going to forget that one) was still racing in 2011.

Blimey, what a story...! First of all I'm completely gutted for you sir, this kind of thing just makes me sick to the pit of my stomach.
I have to applaud you for digging your heels in and doing all you could to find your car, that took some real gumption when you were probably feeling pretty darn low about all this...
Finding it really was a miracle and something that (unfortunately) rarely happens these days as the people who have them rely on the fact that they've been cunningly hidden away from prying eyes. I think that people who rent out land like this really need to keep a closer eye on what is happening on said land rather than just taking the money and saying no more about it!
With regards to the people who took your car there really isn't anything to say about such low-life scum...! Not only do they ruin someones faith in humanity they ruin things for honest people that partake in banger racing and really do enjoy it in the most above board way possible. I think a criminal sentence has to be handed out to these people and they need to be banned from banger racing FOR LIFE...!!!
It is so true that it is that 1% that spoils everything for everyone but this also proves that cars are still getting stolen to race no matter how defensive anyone gets about accusations of this nature... This is what happens and this proves it!!!
Anyhow, the main thing is is that this car was found and it can be reunited with its rightful owner even if it is missing a few key pieces! I just hope that it gets back on the road as soon as possible as that is where it should be...

it absolutely stupifies me me that all number plates and VINs arent checked and verified at all banger meets before anyone is allowed on track. if they really gave a curse word about the image and reputation of their 'sport', theyd have set that up years ago.

Ugh another reason i hate banger 'racing' its just a ludicrous sport to begin with. All the nonces on the facebook pages always say oh banger racers don't nick cars, well what the curse word is this then! I've ordered three trackers one for each car!

well i was gripped at the edge of my seat reading that.... pleased you found it but sorry to see the state it is in... and i hope the banger boys do get bans, also it would be good during scurtineering to get eh chassis numbers and maybe even cars that race should have a logbook in the racers name or a team member. don't know how practical this is though.
as a side note if and when you do get it going i would offer my help in trying to restore the paintwork, i have a nice rotary and i could give the bodywork a buff up for you
