Think of what you could do if you moulded-up a series of cabs from a variety of manufacturers and took it round to different shows – Cabstar/Hiace for us J-people, aforementioned Commer, Citroen H van etc etc. And it would be equally valid everywhere!
It’s good, but wouldn’t it be more impressive if it had an outrageously powerful flat-four in the back?.........

Nope. ive struggled all morning to think of another car that has the driver at the front of the vehicle, in front of the engine, and has a chassis tagged to low 6's! a vw bus running pro mod times ..... thats just awesome!

driver at the front of the vehicle.
I was going to say Mercedes Sprinter, but the driver is behind the engine.

it certainly doesnt exist in common use within drag classes - which is why it took so long for the tech guys to asign a time to it ... they didnt know what to classify it as.

Keefy, you surprise me. You’re saying you’d rather it have a Keith Black Hemi than a flat-four? That’s what I was getting at, it’d be a more amazing concept with something relevant to its original engine. To me, with that Hemi it’s about as much a VW as a funny car or NASCAR racer is whatever late-model US car it’s pretending to be thanks to an airbrushed approximation of grille and lights.

To me, with that Hemi it’s about as much a VW as a funny car or NASCAR racer is whatever late-model US car it’s pretending to be thanks to an airbrushed approximation of grille and lights. i have long had a vision of a drag car in my head. Based on an early vw squareback, full tube chassis, but with V8 and blower out the bonnet. Basically, Pro Mod squareback. so that kinda answers your question ... ish. I don't mind engine/vehicle mishmash's, it keeps things interesting. And V8 in drag cars go together like sugar in coffee. plus, as its inspiration came from the hot wheels model it just wouldnt have been the same if it had a flat 4

think of it in terms of the Outrage bug funny car. impressive with a flat 4 motor, but when it evolved into eightrage, now thats what I'm taking 'bout. norm, how can a keith black hemi not be impressive? id hit it ;D

I really do love it, but as already mentioned, its not a vw is it. Is the cab fiberglass? are the windows perspex? All those who saw it in the flesh, how many split window parts are actually on it?
Edit. from what i can see headlights (probably repro) badge (probably repro) door hinges (maybe VW origional) and door handles. Looks like thats it!

the cab is steel - its a massively modified 64 (check the pic of the 'spec' board)
if you are saying cars with repro parts arent really vw's then that goes for MANY VW's, not just waynes
but thats not the point. Its a VW as much as any other VW/AE drag car is.
