A new 45D cap and rota! ...and "We have ignition"! started on half a turn of the key. Thanks for all the help and support. Do I go electronic or not? I've heard points don't wear very quickly at all with a certain kind of coil (inductive?) and thus don't cause issues, is this true? How do I tell what I've got?

P.s the cat is safe I can't catch it. Whilst I agree on the whole cats don't scratch cars generally when you have a highly polished car that is wet their paws don't grip and when they slip the claws come out!

Who knows. There are no new scratches since the car has been stuck at home all week. But I leave it on the road now as the cat only ever sits on the car on the drive. My drive seems to be a thoroughfare for the seemingly billions of cats where I live and they regularly screech and fight so maybe my car was the ring. Most of the scratches have polished out and the paint is presentable but not perfect anyway so not real harm done.
Cat lovers can breathe easy but I fear I'll never be one of your number. I'm not really a pet person but at least a dog is loyal.

Just been reading through your thread thinking I really ought to sort my 2000 saloon out. I think you have a bit missing from your gear lever. There should be a domed plate fitted to it, like the one you made but the proper one is steel. Sorry if I am stating the obvious but if it's been left off the car by a previous owner you might not have realised.

Points when they are working IMO are not too bad. Modern stuff however can be a royal pain from condensers becoming intermittent (I have often put on older items, and had a more consistent dwell reading, and nicer running engine), to the heel of the points melting causing the gap to close. Why they are not made well today Lord knows! If the points are working well now I would be tempted to say leave them and adjust when necessary, but to get an electronic conversion (even the cheaper ones will do) and to fit it when you please .

Not much to report, running well just getting a run out once a week to keep her spritely. Nice sunny day today so she's had her first trip 'Sauf of the river' to my sister in laws. Copes amazingly well on the motorway for a lady of her vintage 75@3100rpm with overdrive engaged with plenty of go in reserve. She's a filthy girl at the mo but have a pic anyway.

Racked up another 3-400 miles no major issues apart from the oil leaks getting a bit worst. But some minor fixes have made a big difference. I've always had a clunk from the rear of the car over bigger bumps. I assumed it was the metal can of classic oil that was just wedged in the void behind the wheel arch banging on the boot floor. Alas I left it on the drive after checking the oil, the banging persisted. After some investigations I discovered a bobbin on the exhaust was broken and the exhaust was hitting one of the rear suspension links. Having never had a car with exhaust bobbins before I thought they'd be unobtainium and merrily spent half an hour with a screw driver and rubber cement turning the old one into a bush with a hole through the middle for a bolt. On popping into halfrauds for said bolt I discovered a rover mini exhaust bobbin for 1.59 bizarrely less than a single bolt. Fitted by feel and all is well exhaust wise.
After a thousand miles of my behind the drivers seat has become very uncomfortable and the sag is starting to score the vinyl. Some investigation uncovered a split seat diaphragm. I've not found a supplier for a new one (anyone know if mini or midget/Mgb are the same?) So I got creative with cable ties at lunchtime and whilst not perfect the difference is vast. I'm tempted to rebuild this seat myself as local trimmers have been reluctant to reuse the existing covers and mega expensive. Anyone tried cutting up memory foam mattresses and/of pillows for seats I have some I don't need (too hot to sleep on it wraps round and cooks you)

Grr came out to find the boot and drivers door flapping in the breeze this morning and the boot bereft of my fecking useful 52 piece halfords professional socket set. Could be worse I suppose. Annoying as I know exactly where it's gone but Essex Taliban will only abandon their speed traps and go up there if I ring them to tell them i'm going myself with shotgun and several boxes of ammo.
Best hide the triumph elsewhere for a couple of months I guess. Sigh

Car is fine all the locks are marginal and difficult to lock but easy to unlock (think teaspoon). Steering lock was installed and i think it did its job. All things considered it was a lucky escape. I've been researching a security update and I like this idea anyone tried it? mmoc.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=27714Triumph back in her normal away from home hiding place for the time being. *edit I'm still seriously hacked off though that socket set was like one of my children and I reckon nearly as old as my 14 yr old daughter. The urge to leave a temptation on the passenger seat of my daily corsa shitbox and lay in wait with a length of 2 by 4 is almost overwhelming. But I'm trying to learn to be a civilised responsible adult.

Bastards! I've had this happen to me three years ago, my nova saloon had the top of its doorframe bent back, luckily when I got the car I relocated the ignition into the cigarette lighter's hole so unless you knew it was there you wouldn't find it as novas are notoriously simple to steal (thanks again top gear!). So like yours the doors and boot were open when I came outside in the morning, nothing was taken from mine though, so I guess they wanted the car itself. Really doesn't boost confidence. Get on your local facebay sites and look for people selling tools, you'll soon find out who it was.
