TBH I had the reverse reaction.
Saw the photo and thought "Meh, andother '36 all Foosed to wibblepoo"
Then had a look at the other photos and realised that its absolutely cock-on right down the line.
I find that Trepanier's cars are often a bit like that. He is more the "rodder's rodder" than someone like Boyd Coddington or Chip Foose who are a bit more bells and whistles mainstream in the way they do their cars.
The more I look at it the more I like it.
Unlike a lot of $$$$$$$$$$$ cars where you go "Wow" and then when you look more at it you go, "meh, maybe not".
He also seems to be making those greens his signature colour...
I'm with HW, theres not a fault you can pick with the proportions, the stance, the look, nothing. Its all just enough and nothing too much or too little.
That will still oook good in 20 years time when the latest Cockington Streamliner carved from billet will be looking sad and dated in 2-3 years time.

The instant you see this you know it something special,.. you don't need to see the detail,.. it's like Ritzlow's '32,.. just correct in every way, the colour, the wheels, the proportions. It has just the right amount of smoothing, just the right amount of everything. The thing is you can tell that from the first glance... its afterwards that you notice the details. This isn't humdrum compared to anything, this is the current peak of automotive art and style. Right now,... nothing is better than this. ^^ what he said. Here's what it would have looked like from the factory. i'll put a fiver on it I can come up with half a dozen better looking cars on google in 10 minutes! 13 minutes and counting. ;D

sorry, one's in a separate post as i missed the link anyway, half a dozen better looking, more ooof-making cars, even stopping to make sure they're pretty much in the same genre, and none got on the same site or by the same tag words on google. sorry, but i'd take any of those over that coupe. i find the colour awful, the lack of eyecatchiness lazy... basically, to me that looks like a mk1 jetta thats been buffed and lowered 10mm and debadged, and somebody calling it the epitomy of euro look. no thanks.

Nope, sorry, your 6 minutes over the deadline and not one of the cars makes me erect as Trepanier's coupe!
I'll let you know what going on in Chip Foose's world, as we're going to visit him over the Easter Weekend...

This is the epitome of the street rodding right now ... a handy guide for that is the little trophy in front of it. You telling me thats not an eye catching car?? Are you mental? Maybe you like some of the cars that lost to this? The sort of over billetted "eye catching" stuff that is everything that is wrong with modern street rods?

The '66 chevelle you've posted is a just essentially buffed and wheeled standard car, Although it does have a TPI motor ( I think). Edit: Hotwire. Urrrgh.

This is the epitome of the street rodding right now ... a handy guide for that is the little trophy in front of it. seeing trophy... thinking that it doesnt make me any more appreciative of the car as it still looks bland... yes yes yes [edit: not the red one!] at least I can tell they've been modified. not exactly a compelling argument so to elaborate: on one hand you have a car that is bright orange, billet chrome and luuurrrrvely wheels. it screams look at me. I'm guessing it probably has a smiliar level of workmanship (which isnt the issue here anyway). in the toyota-corolla-grey corner you have a car that has an incredibly high level of workmanship, but few if any body mods (certainly none noticeable) but yet it has shiny chrome wheels. this is countered by very dull paint. its screaming look at me while trying to be inconspicuous. it has too much chrome to pull off a mid green paintjob. its not sure whether its subtle or extravagant. [edit] i don't necessarily think the losing cars are perfect either

If the car has to shout out "look at me" its trying too hard. thats the beauty with cars like these. You KNOW they are special, but they don't need it written in luminous lights to tell you

Slater,.. you shouldn't be falling asleep, you should be examining them in incredible detail in the hope that one day you too can produce cars of a similar level of workmanship,.. if only on engineering grounds.. ignore for a second the aesthetics of it, look at the engineering.
Sure chopping some coils out of our suspension, wanging on some wide wheels and hotting up our engines is all great fun. This,.. this is Monet or Picasso compared to our finger painting.
Maybe I'm on my own,.. I thought perfection was something to be striven for rather than dismissed as too perfect. I thought that understanding proportion, subtlety and invention would help make people better at modifying cars rather than just paint by numbers 1) take old cheap car 2) lower on wide wheels 3) stand back and admire 4) repeat ad nauseaum.... Nothing against modifying by numbers, its our bed and butter, its pretty much what I'm doing,.. but as I said,.. this is something more. Its not just billet and money thrown at an old car, it is total understanding of what to do where, what to cut, what to leave, what to paint, what to polish, what to add and what to leave. If you can understand that, then you can produce better modified cars, even on our budgets...
The fact that suprisingskoda thinks thats how the cars suppose to look anyway "in the toyota-corolla-grey corner you have a car that has an incredibly high level of workmanship, but few if any body mods (certainly none noticeable)" .. proving that the car has been so perfectly put together with such a high level of understanding that people are thinking it left the factory like that and was always suppose to look that way,.. even though its been radically modified bodily.

i must say, I'm very surprised at peoples blinkered vision to this.
even if you wouldnt want to own a car like this, you cant help but admire and appreciate the work thats gone into it.

I have to say that I prefer Trepanier's work to Foose's usually, but in the case of this particular genre (hi-tech trophy-hunter Street Rods) I think that Foose takes the win: I have a complaint to make regarding the display too...it's my opinion that stance is one of, if not the major factor on a car, so a raised display like that is not going to work in it's favour at all.

at first glance i thought its looked very well indeed, i like the colour and wheels especailly, as mentioned before it looks like a special car without being OTT colour and wheel wise. (sorry to keep banging on about the colour and the wheels).
I love the stuff Rad rides turn out, especailly "sick Fish" which i thought was awesome. it wasnt until i saw the underneath that m,y feeling changed, ive got a serious problem with super shiney polished chrome, gold plate gubbins underneath cars, IMO if ur gonna make a car look good then make it useable aswell, this is not a useable car, no one in their right mind would wanna risk scratching all that shiny stuff with stone chips and what not.
I agree completely with whats been said about how the body has been altered, thats where the art in car customising lies for me, its not stickin wheels on and slapping two tone paint schemes (sorry paint and wheels again) its about useing the car as a canvas and making what u want from it.
id like to add that i prefer rad rides stuff to foose's, foose seems to use the same concept over and over. and I'm a big fan of foose.
sorry to whitter on, just struck a nerve there.

Awesome build, engineering, detail, finish, execution, concept....the absolute state of the art.
But with rods, the killer question for me is 'would I want to own and drive it??'
And it's a no from me I'm afraid, it just leaves me cold...not because there's anything wrong with it....I just don't like it!!!
