Right well time to type up a project thread for this! My dads never really been in to his cars but ever since I got my first mini in 2009 and he came to a couple of shows he always said he would like one of the estates with the wood on the back. Any we are in 2013 and I was away looking at a commer van for a new project when I get a message from my dad saying he accidentally won a mini on ebay. These are the pics from ebay he showed me when I got home! I was not expecting that! Anyway he had won it and paid the deposit so no going back now. A week later and a mate went and pick it up for me. Well my dad. Here it is home on the drive. That roof is gonna be a task!

Then this weekends work! I need to do the engine steady bushes on my daily used clubby so while I was out doing that my dad made a start on the woody. FIrst up came taking off all the wood that was riddled in wood worm. Next up came stripped off the rear doors and cleaning all the curse word out the back. Then rear bumpers and fuel tank were removed. Lucky enough the fuel tank is ok and will be able to go back on! Then after that the subframe was taken off. Well what was left of it anyway. Thats as far as we have got! Next up will be engine out and front subby dropped. If anyone has any parts that may be good for this please message me. I have stripped a few minis over the years but all later ones so we need some early bit of this. Anyway. Thanks for reading!

In the world of Minis, ANY smooth-roof Countryman/Traveller is highly desirable. You've got your work cut out there but it'll be worth it. Good luck!

Oh my god he has picked a serious project there. I'm going to go and buy shares in a mig wire company, you're going to keep them in profit for a while. But seriously good luck with it mate its going to be a slog but they are a rare motor now.

Cheers for all the comments guys. To reply to some of the above. I think your right about the door gaps and the back end coming apart. It was one of the reasons I wanted the back doors taken off as one of the first jobs, so the weight was taken off to stop to much straining. When the interior is out we are gonna to weld a few brace bars across parts of the shell as well so hopefully it wont get worse.
Yea the fact it such an early smooth roof is the reason we have decided to go with it and not just sell the numberplate and the good parts. Reg transfers offered £2500 for it!
I think we are gonna be busy for the next few years haha. The IMM is in the Uk again next year. My dad is going to take the clubby you can see in the pic above and I am trying to get my project back on the road ready for it as well. Then it will be 5 years until its back in the UK again so that is the deadline for her to be done. IMM 2019 the Minis 60th Birthday!
Thanks for the worse of encouragement guys!

As a long term Mini fan I'm going to enjoy this - good luck with the project - at least the wood ain't structural like it is on the Minor 1000 Traveller.

Bookmarked. This will hopefully be an entertaining and informative build on the perils and pitfalls of cars made partially of wood.

Cheers guys. Hopfully the roof issue is solved. Found someone with an old smooth estate roof that chopped off an old van. This should save a lot of time repairing the old one.
