Sooooo.... there's a Charade GTti on Ebay at the moment. I mailed the guy and asked if he'd be interested in a swap for my Saxo. He's asked for photo's of the saxo. So I'm building my hopes right up to the point of massive dissapointment and want to know a bit more about them. I know at least 1 person on here had one (can't remember who though ). I tried to find some oof worthy pics (cos thats all we want to see really) and couldn't find anyhing that extraordinary so I've just got a pic of the car in question and a standard one

Momma! I wanted one of these when they were new. I really wanted one of these when they were new. Like really really.
Then a few years later I tried to find a good used one, and they were all gone. All rotted away or crashed.
They don't come up very often now. If you get a good one you're in the zone. 3 pot 900cc or so with a turbo. One of the quickest hot hatches on the road in the late 80s. Eejits buying them and just whacking the boost up until they popped saw a lot of them off.
I once saw one in a magazine claiming to have 330 BHP. No idea if that was true (I remember the 600 BHP Orion in Max Power LOL) or what ££££ to get to that level.
They are cool as polarbears danglies. You should get one. But you should check for rot and accident damage etc.

Yeah 3 cylinder engine twincam 12v with a bulletproof bottom end. Apparently 150-170bhp isn't difficult to see with upgraded headgasket and some induction mods and a boost increase. I've loved them ever since the Retro Cars article on them. Shame there 4x100pcd though cud've had some awesome wheels if they were 4x114.3

I saw one at JAE in 2005. Lovely it was too. I know a chap with one (his other car is a 510 Datsun!) and he was very happy with it. Buy it! Definately a keeper.

james_themadprofessor had one a couple of years back, and I know he now wants another, he would tell you everything you wanted to know (and everything you didn't) I'm sure.
Last time we saw his old one was when it turned up at CaRS last summer totally unexpectantly.

I have owned 2 in the past and they are great, quick cars but as stated, rust is a killer and I doubt parts are easy to get now, I had min about 6 years ago when there were a few on the autotrader every week, now, NONE! They are quite pop in Aus so maybe find info that way. I recall a company called 'camskill' think that was the name who did a few tuning parts and there is a owners club too. with exhaust and down pipe (just change the std panel filter to K+N/Green and drill holes in air box as cone filters are not as good power wise from what I lernt with mine). And they are e as fast a saxo VTS/Clio 16v etc (and I meen pulls them in fast with these mods!) turbo is small but the std engine can take a bit of abuse as I think they were all fodged bottom ends. i cant remember alot as this was my first car, and it was a bit poor reliability wise as it was always breaking down but I think it was just a bad example as I got another and it was great! Good luck buying it and hope some of thais vauge info helps!!

Right Update! I got in contact with the Chairman of the GTti Owners club. Absolutely top bloke!! He's had a look at the ebay ad ( here ) and he's told me that it has the early interior and that the colour doesn't look right to him So I've texted the fella selling it to ask if he has any history for it or know's anything about either point. Looking at the other photo's you can see the colour is a bit off, I originally put it down to the rain etc but I'm not so sure now shame cos I was pretty much gunna get it. Whats peoples thoughts?? Knock him right down becasue of these points and go for it anyway or walk away??

I'd be careful of making a fuss about the colour! He might just tell you to fugg off (I probably would, to be honest, if you tried to knock me down over the colour without even seeing the car). I'd be more interested in how much rust and bog it has. I would say the chances of finding one now that had never had any paint work would be nil.
Defo a car that I would go and see, ideally with someone who knows them well, before swapping it for my daily transport. Tread carefully! And don't deal with the seller by text! To me that would defo mark you out as a half ar$ed buyer.

I have been on the phone to himas well. I might try and arrange to go down to see it at the weekend. Yeah I understand what you mean about the colour. Apparently its had the bonnet re-sprayed as I say it may be cos of the rain that it looks a different colour.

colours in pohotos and on monitors are never 100% for real life. Did a whole porject on colour representation for the fashion industry once and that was a pain in the donkey.

Twonks who txt msg you with stuff like 'Hi M8 av U still got da Car 4 Sle' Are possibly the lowest ebb of human existance in my book. I refuse to enter into any sort of sale dialog with anyone too retarded to actually use a telephone for the purpose which it is intended.
Apols. for the rant. I agree, go and have a nose round it. If it is 'non-standard' as opposed to 'sub-standard' let that no be a barrier. See if it's a car you can live with and ENJOY (without being anal over colour or cloth finish) and makes up your own mind.
I reckon after a go in it you'll be smitten.

I'd like to clarify that the seller asked me to text him and we have had a telephone conversation as well.
The owners club website has proved a Wealth of information. Props to Mr Allan Bayman. He's a genuine Diamond geezer!!

I used to work with a chap who owned a black GTti. It was crazy up until about 80mph then it petered out after that. That car was so much fun it made me fall in love with them. He used to get a lot of his tuning gear from a chap in Barnet (North London) who tunes/races them.
