What an ace idea for a thread! I still have a Nova buried away somewhere though alas it`s too far gone to go back on the road. It`s the 1.5TD Isuzu engined one and it`s stupidly quick. Torque steers in 2nd and pulled my 3.5 tonne Transit about 1/2 mile like it wasn`t there. Currently waiting to have the engine taken out and put into a Corsa TD I have with the same (but knackered) engine. I really fancy a standard 1.3 or 1.4 SR at some point though I`ve seen a few C20XE converted ones around cheap enough recently. Anyhow Novas, like most Vauxhalls, are for winners!

Funny. I was talking to Retromat about these cars yesterday... Here's the legendary 'out the box' Nova from last year.

Gah I always get allessios mixed up with softstars. Either ones are awesome tbh. They are Speedline Allesio Caps, I had them on my Corsa (& strangely had to get the centre hub part of the wheels machined to clear the brake calipers ) They were one of the few aftermarket wheel with Vauxhall's 49mm offset - so 16s would fit with minimal arch work Great looking wheels, even now IMO Thanks for all those great Nova pictures Darren, i've always stood up for the much ridiculed but perfectly formed hatchback - I should imagine your fav is the orange Jagermeister Nova aswell : My first car when I was 18 was this 4 door Saloon.... I later had a 3dr facelifted 1.2 merit as a daily driver - both proved 100% reliable and relatively fun to drive (the OHC cam engines proving fairly nippy for their small capacity) But both had the beginnings of rot problems - epecially around the fav place -the rear arches

More goodness: The only pic I can find of JohhnyA's legendary saloonodoomTM. It was totally curse word looking from outside and IIRC the exhaust came out of the rear of the boot lid to add extra naff/barry points - but it had some goodies at the business end:

That's on the previous page, but it's only a standard engine in that or am I forgetting things as usual?

I like Nova's. It is hard to forgive them though when you see the Barry'd ones. However, with no body kit and a few mods they look great. my favorite ever Nova though was one I spotted on TurboNutters a few years ago. It was black, on steels with some hot engine. Totally stock on the outside, stripped out interior, bike carbs, and went like curse word. Bonus points to anyone who can find pics of it!

In my opinion (and to quote Tony the Tiger) : They'rrrre Grrrrrrrrrrrreat!! I must have been ahead of my time when I had mine as I fitted a Cavalier SRi 130 lump up front and commander steels for a stealth approach and a bit more rubber - looked totally bog stock - went like heck Sold it to some muppet who smashed it up in just a few days tend not to sell cars now ;D ^^^^^^ Go team! That sounds like it would've been the wasp's nipples! Yeah I bought a set of three merit badges for it too but never fitted them I'd have need to take of load of body tape and decals plus lose the rear spoiler etc etc etc and it was still a sleeper even as a 1.3 SR ;D

Never realised the saloons had different front wings to the hatch, missing the blister arches. Huh, learned something new today.
Love them, really wanted one years ago before I could drive but then the Max Power scene exploded and they were the car of choice. There's only so many times you can see a lime green SR with a poorly fitted bodykit and a 5" exhaust before you go off them.... luckily the "buy it, mod it, crash it, scrap it" mentality means there's few left these days and hence they're cool once more.

I'm afraid I still can't look at a road one and not think 'chav-wagon'. This will change with time, they are a pretty rare sight nowadays, it's just a shame so many fell into the hands of idiots. I had one for my first car; a 1.0 Swing. Would never start, kept cutting out when you dipped the clutch, it leaked, and the tailgate would come open randomly! But it was my first car, and I loved it to bits

As posted by me ages ago about Novas, I think 99% of the problem with Novas you see around is that there is no respect for the original "square" lines of the car. It's all a case of stick the generic round mirrors on, colourcode every single thing on the car, put that same grille on everyone seems to. It's funny because even a really basic 3 door Nova would look great with just a nice set of wheels (something that would suit the car like period 80s ones or rally-esque ones, nothing of enormous size) and a little suspension drop. Nothing else required. Simplicity is the key!
