[img style="max-width:100%;" src="https://c7.staticflickr.com/8/7616/26530354734_6649cbf920_b.jpg" That one's mine! These are no longer (probably never were) "poor man's" Porsches, but they are so cool they need to be posted again I think that there was never a "poor man's Porsche" as they were all more expensive than rival manufacture's offerings. It really just refers to them being cheaper than the equivalent 911 of the time. (e.g. Why buy a "insert Porsche model" when you will wish you had just bought a 911).

I agree with you that when they were new, they were actually pretty pricey. I think that the poor mans Porsche tag may come from the time (maybe the last 10 years until relatively recently?) where you could get a pretty good 924 for a grand. 911s never got that cheap because they were never produced in such large numbers. Nowadays prices for good 924s are on the up again (I think partly lifted by general classic car prices rising, and partly lifted by the supply of really good cars (especially turbos) dwindling). Cheers Duncan

My interest in these is growing rapidly. Probably has something to do with just buying one!
I always thought they were the runt of the pack, but they seem to be rising in the ranks in some way.
I was never totally convinced on the 924, but I think I like them more than the 944 at the minute.

That's a really good article about what was a fab day. You've got a couple of pictures of my car: That one has me in it too. Not sure if this is mine or not - I think there were a couple of other silver Turbos... How would I go about getting a good resolution version of the first one? Cheers Duncan

It would have been nice if they had put this Porsche 924 Turbo Targa Concept into production. The Transaxle Targa from 1979 - From 1977 to 1980 the engineers in Weissach worked on possible Targa versions of the Porsche 924 and 924 Turbo. - The overall idea was to make the roof manually removable, like on the 911 Targa. - Due to cost issues and problems with chassis stiffness, the project was cancelled in 1980. - The insights gained in this project were used later in the development of the 944 Cabriolet.
