Was just wondering what kind of stereos you guys are using in your retro rides, quite curious to know wether you prefer to stay with the factory fitted model or if there was no factory fitted radio (like my 2cv) you go for something period? Or alternatively are all you guys running big loud CD, MP3 type jobs? I ask as for some bizzare reason I woke up this morning and decided my nice Sony MP3 head unit was far too modern looking, I have since hidden it away mounted under the parcel shelf (controlled by remote) and in its place... 8-Track's where it's at baby So yea, retro radios or modern 'ICE' ?

My car came with an old 70's stereo, but it was not up to much so I replaced it with a CD player. Nothing fancy, just some Argos "Goodmans" thing. Does the job for now. I would have been happy if it was a Becker Mexico or something (as fitted in some Benzies) 'cos they're worth a fair bit, but it was just some old aftermarket thing. I still got £30 for it on fleabay mind. Might go for some more serious ICE once I have some spare cash (not soon then...) EDIT: Cool 8-Track!!!!

The Scrote's still got the factory Ford radio/cassette in it...but I've got my trusty 4 yr old Kenwood CD player to go in, otherwise I have to burn CD compilations, then record them onto a C90.
Found some suitably late '80s cassettes in a bag in the spare room though, so whilst the little tape tray in front of the gear lever's stuffed with Fleetwood Mac, Kate Bush and Tears For Fears tapes, I never actually play them, because I would be violently ill. ;-)

Polo has an 80s casette player, into which I plug a 3.5mm to tape converter so I can play my MP3 player

What's wrong with Fleetwood Mac, Kate Bush and Tears for Fears?! Some of the best 80s stuff there. Forget about Wham, Abba and Kajagoogoo. I'd rather have the previous list plus a bit of Nik Kershaw or Howard Jones.
Sorry, no retro music thingy in my car but retro music tastes!

Mini: Blaupunkt CD/MP3 Player Golf: Sony CD Player (will be upgraded soon) Jetta Blaupunkt CD/MP3/iPod Player Hornet: None.
I've got a sub and an amp with all the wiring sitting in the spare bedroom waiting for me to decide what car to put it into.
My Dolomite used to have the original AM radio fitted. Was going to take it out originally, but I felt it wouldn't look right with a new stereo.

Put me down as having a big loud MP3 type affair, in the Alfa at least... they weren't supplied with a factory fitted head deck. The Starlet has it's original Fujitsu AM radio in the dash running the original center speaker, with a contemporary CD player hidden away in the glovebox running a pair of 6x9's for now.

The Panda has just got a hole - I can't remember it ever having a radio, so maybe it has lost the blanking plate. I'm not big on in-car tunes really, but I'll probably reinstate the blanking plate and then have a period ghettoblaster on the seat for traffic jams/crusing.

I've got an 8track player for the Toledo, this model: I need to buy some tapes before I fit it. The Mazda's got the standard am radio I'd like to keep it in place and instal a more modern unit some where out of the way.

Look in this months practical classics in the adds bit and there's a small add for a company called something like vintage wireless and they do old radios, but fitted with new stuff so you can pick up ffm and run your ipod etc... very cool

everything of mine gets a decent setup of HU, decent components of 100w+, and at least one subwoofer and amp. every car i've driven for more than a couple of weeks (except the Seat) has had a cd player - in fact, the SAME cd player lol have so many wires and speakers and all sorts of stuff lying everywhere for all the autos. just had a fusion sub and an amp arrive for the green fav. at last!
