In the early 1970's, the Mercedes W116 had an ECU I know what you mean though, the whole "No user serviceable parts inside" thing gives me the fear. However I reckon once they're understood, ECU's aren't that scary... ECUs don't usually break (unless you do some MIG welding with it still connected ) Sensors or connectors on the other hand.....

Yep don't buy summat just cos it is or isnt retro. non of my 5 old cars are pre 1980, pre 1973, pre 1949, not even sure if any are 'classics' yet, 4 of them have plastic bumpers, at least two of them even have 16 valve engines! ;D I don't care if its retro, or if my peers or mates, parents, neighbours or GF will dig it. Before I got the 3 door Sierra, I was gonna mod the living daylights out of my shiney '91 Sapph with a bigger engine and some styling as a do it all, admitted these things are grey area 'retro' at the mo but i'd still be here chattin 'retro' whatever I own, I would also of collected too many other cars too i'm sure.

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

this might sound strange and completly off the point, but I'm 20 and I live in a small country village, me and all of my mates all drive retro cars and in my opinion there all uber cool especial my mates scimitar coupe, anyway 15 miles away in the nearest town most , no all lads my age are drivin saxos corasa etc.. and they think there cool, is this true around the country? or is it just suffolk?? What town are you talking about? just interested cos I'm in Ipswich

To me Retro is something that's had it's meaning battered around and massaged here in a desperate attempt to try and mould the term to fit the community, when really we should all accept that the title Retro-Rides doesn't always truly represent what this community is always about.
Although of course "Sometimes-old-but-not-always-as-long-as-it's-just-cool-rides" doesn't roll off the tongue as well.

I see what you mean. I think there's a definite difference between the definition of a "Retro car" (i.e.: defined by the dictionary / general public) and a "Retro-ride" (the kinda stuff we like on here). Time wasted trying to find a definition is time that could be better used modifying / buying / ogling retro cars. ;D

Defo, before I picked up Retro car mag, and started hanging around here and RCC, i just liked cars especially old modified cars, and old cars. Nothing changed, I even like a few new ones!

Ha, there always seem to be loads of "good ol' boys" around Stowmarket, I reckon they keep the supply of quality old cars going... ;D Edit: Not a metallic green mk1 Fiesta, is it? My old one's up for grabs apparently....
