You know how it is when your watching motor-racing, you always root for the obscure car, no matter how uncompetitive it is? So hows about some weird and wonderful race cars: For starters A Henry J.

Volvo 343 Rally car B14 bored out to 1.7 litres and turbocharged - completely different rear suspension setup, which looks pretty pimp - can't find the pics again now

Alfa Montreal Racer tho the engine may be race derived - thats about the closet a Monti would normally come to a racer - untill this beastie. Yummo. We've had one as a race car here in NZ for at least 5 years now, was actually built by a Kiwi while he was living in the UK for a spell, bright green one. Sounds gorgeous. One of my best memories of it, is sitting on the bootlid to keep the rear tyres on the rollers at a dyno run... mmmmmmmm

Obscure cars no matter how uncompetitive usually get an entrance into events over more common stuff, so it's wise to consider this when buying if you're not overly bothered about winning ;D Not all overly obscure, but hey they look good.. WTF ?! That must be the fastest Polonez evar! Please tell us more!

WTF ?! That must be the fastest Polonez evar! Please tell us more! I picked it up off here a while ago, I think the story went that the engine was an ex-integrale motor used after the donor was destroyed in an accident. As I remember it was done back in the day too, as there weren't many options... I'll have a dig for another pic. Oh, and Sabres... Heard of them, but never really seen many decent pictures, they're pretty cars Not obscure, but the usage is certainly worthy of mention...

Been trying to track this one down : On the right not the left I'd LOVE to know who was catching who on that one! Also, Richard.. post pictures of the C110 Hardtop you saw racing a few months back. I adore obscure race cars. Like this;

Yeah, they're all NZ cars, the XA Coupe is a local to invercargill racecar, it's been about forever and will never get faster and has constant issues.. but.. at least it still comes out.
The Cosmo is a Dunedin based car IIRC generally comes down to every other meeting down here at Teretonga (being Dunedin doesn't have it's own track) but I haven't seen it this season.
The 910 is an IMMENSE race car, absolutely fantastic to watch the guy has been driving it for years and knows it like the back of his hand, I was crash crew at a local hill climb and he was giving it absolute death, sideways around most corners, coming within inches of cliffs and trees. Really amazing. That photo was taken by my friend at RTTS (Race to the Sky) which is in Queenstown District, Monster Tajima comes every year for it with one version or other of his Escudo.
If I can find the folder of my friends pictures I'll post more off oddball cars that do the RTTS, there's generally a few unexpecteds in there.
